* Organic Maps: Como alternativa a Google Maps.

@EighthLayer have you checked to see that they've really removed the exif data? I just read that they leave it intact 🤷‍♂️

@dansup This should be a visible option. Hiding it away is bad form and not in the spirit of a decentralised Fediverse.

Some fascinating research out on hacking a Subaru via STARLINK connected vehicle service.

"On November 20, 2024, Shubham Shah and I discovered a security vulnerability in Subaru’s STARLINK connected vehicle service that gave us unrestricted targeted access to all vehicles and customer accounts in the United States, Canada, and Japan.

Using the access provided by the vulnerability, an attacker who only knew the victim’s last name and ZIP code, email address, phone number, or license plate could have done the following:

Remotely start, stop, lock, unlock, and retrieve the current location of any vehicle.

Retrieve any vehicle’s complete location history from the past year, accurate to within 5 meters and updated each time the engine starts.

Query and retrieve the personally identifiable information (PII) of any customer, including emergency contacts, authorized users, physical address, billing information (e.g., last 4 digits of credit card, excluding full card number), and vehicle PIN.

Access miscellaneous user data including support call history, previous owners, odometer reading, sales history, and more.

After reporting the vulnerability, the affected system was patched within 24 hours and never exploited maliciously."

@hammer_gaidin Although I'm still on Windows 10, I will soon to change to Linux. I'm using Kopia and backing up to Backblaze B2. Kopia has versions for Linux (which is why I picked it). It took a little while to set up, but has been working splendidly.

"Fascism is being afraid. Fascism is fear bossing you. Fascism is worse than all of these things. Fascism is closer to you than I can make you see. I'm trying to wake you up, telling you that you're sleeping with ten times more dangerous than a poison-fanged snake in your bed. If fascism does come and it does kill me, well, then you add me alone onto the hundreds of millions which fascism has already dusted and it don't scare me so very much."

Australians waiting for the Online Safety Amendment (Social Media Minimum Age) Bill 2024 to sort out its age verification approach should notice what’s already happening with small sites in the UK where other legislation is afoot.

@camwilson, this is a thing: small servers and their communities taking a pragmatic approach as the risks are very high for volunteers.

Fast & functional mail transport, chat, collab pads, 'cloud' etc are absolutely doable in 2025. Arguably, as we go forward, these will become increasingly critical to the resilience & health of whole communities.

Building up & maintaining a server can appear daunting, but is best be approached like a community garden. The skills to build, seed, protect, grow & nurture can be learned, then shared on. Governance eases the more that work is shared. 1/2
