Big Tech were never serious about addressing climate change. It was always cynical greenwashing.
"These companies seem to have lost their way with regard to climate strategies."
No they haven't. Big Tech has only ever cared about accelerating growth--no matter what the cost.
"The narrative has changed from 'we’re fixed on the target' to 'we're really not sure, but we’ll get there somehow.'"

Ich will keine Museen von Milliardären „gestiftet“ bekommen.
Ich will, dass Milliardäre Steuern bezahlen und die Gesellschaft entscheidet, welche Museen sie finanzieren möchte.
It's interesting that people assume working class people are uneducated. I've met many working class people who are legit geniuses and understand shit with far more depth than most DC politicians could ever muster.

Data center developers are increasingly tapping into freshwater resources to quench the thirst of data centers, which is putting nearby communities at risk.
Large data centers can consume up to 5 million gallons per day, equivalent to the water use of a town populated by 10,000 to 50,000 people.
With larger and new AI-focused data centers, water consumption is increasing alongside energy usage and carbon emissions.

They typically take up massive spaces and use huge amounts of power and water, but they employ very few people.
What are they?
Data centers!
Nothing worse for a local community than a data center

#ZohranMamdani: “We Can Demand What We Deserve”

NYC dem voters decided that a Muslim Socialist who supports human rights (including trans rights) will be its Democratic candidate in the November mayoral election instead of the corrupt sexual harasser favored by the rich.
I love my city when it chooses to be this awesome.
Eric Adams has no chance at reelection. We all fucking hate him here.
Curtis Sliwa is considered by many here to be a buffoon.
Zohran is going to be our next Mayor. The Democrats have failed to understand that we want the young, the vibrant, the eloquent, and the people who actually give a damn about working people in this country.
How is bombing Iran for Israel "America First"?

This is runaway digital endarkenment. We better get organised to secure and share widely the throves of precious fact-and-science-based knowledge humankind has painstakingly accumumated over centuries of rigorous enquiry and archiving. We must act before some big-tech overlord poisons the well.
Empire has been using control over data to "rewrite the entire corpus of human knowledge" at least since Zenodotus and the Library of Alexandria. I'd like to say it's a futile endeavor but actually it can change a LOT.
Check out Ch1 of The Secret Life of Data, which is all about this history.
