I suppose I've never been allowed to celebrate my achievements, and I get put down with absolutely no valid reason.

I used to get harassed for being a "faggot" in school, and now my dad recently called me a worthless cunt.

The only time my achievements were ever recognized were by schools, by granting me academic awards.

These awards were never recognized or celebrated by my parents. In fact, my parents quite frequently treated me as though I was, and I'm using their own words here, retarded. Often going so far as to calling me names when I wasn't academically perfect, even when I was between the ages of five and ten.

When I got older, I learned how to take a punch. Both literally and metaphorically.

I guess at this point, I've just internalized all of it. I have such severe learned helplessness and such severe depression that my psychiatrist is literally considering putting me on disability.

Again, I'm a high achiever... well I was one once.

I guess at this point, I'm debating as to whether I should just lie down and die.

My depression must be creeping back on me.

I've lost the motivation to do nearly everything I once enjoyed. I figure my #selfesteem is being crushed. I've always been mediocre at everything except #mathematics and #programming.

I barely remember anything beyond the limit definition of a derivative, and I'm getting older every minute. I'm soon to be twenty seven and I struggle to program like I used to be able to.

I just don't carry the desire to do it anymore, and I'm mediocre now at #math and programming compared to my peers, it seems.

At least, that's how I feel. I sometimes have to remind myself that the majority of students here have never studied #calculus, and even fewer know how to program at all.

Yet, while I agree sure, I know some calculus still, I feel like programming has never been easier, or more mainstream.

I've never been special or important, and now all the things I've had going for me, I feel like I pale in, compared to peers of a similar age.

So, I finally got a mobile app to the "good enough to consider publishing" stage.

There's only one problem. I can't decide whether or not I actually want to publish it.

Most of the reason why I wont just publish it is because doing so takes effort, and one needs a specific motivator to do so.

I'm a #freesoftware advocate, so, why don't I do it for that reason alone?

Because I'm jaded.

I know no one in my real life who cares in the slightest about *gestures vaguely* much of anything. I live in an anti-intellectual and anti-academic culture, here in #Alberta. You can't expect anyone to care about anything beyond the changes at the local Tim Horton's.

BTW, for those who are following along, I no longer live in #Calgary, I live in #Strathmore now... people are much friendlier, but the culture is so much more old-school conservative.

And then there's the free software/libre culture movement online.

We're so small, you'd think we were dead. The folks on Reddit worship the fungus between Richard Stallman's toes. No one cares about the movement, only the guy who started it.

Lots of folks either lack social skills or are just plain jerks, or don't really talk at all.

I guess what it boils down to, is that I have no like-minded friends, and that makes it really hard to want to actually share my software, especially if it's going to lead to some random guy on my Codeberg repo, telling me that I'm an idiot and must implement his out-of-scope feature or he's gunna harass me and my family...

While I'm sure the individual maintainers are reasonable people (at least as far as kernel maintainers go), removing an avenue for Russia to inject nefarious kernel code (by way of force on these maintainers) is a net positive.
