@wallingf Yeahhh I read that one when it was written the other week too. Hard to know where all this stuff will land. I'm concerned about what it will mean for the future of software as craft
Hello! My name is Lucas. By day I lead a small engineering team for a women's health startup. By night I'm a hobbyist game developer.
I've dabbled in VR and Geospatial AR, but primarily focused on a pixel art tactical RPG called Advent of the Reaper.

wrote about things in my mind lately…
“Airport layover musings: AI, tech, internet culture & giving space for constructive criticism”

a new post again because i got TIME right now 😅✈️⏰😪
@alienmelon really good stuff, thanks for sharing
Happy #screenshotsaturday ! I have some new combat sprites to share of the Angelic Archer, Nathaniel!
In our latest devblog, @lucasgray and I talk about the experience of demoing at our first large show, the Midwest Gaming Classic!

I have mixed feelings about working on UI: on one hand it's both surprisingly complex and tedious. One the other hand when things do work, it's super rewarding.
Anyway, everything is still pretty ugly, so nothing to show yet. Here's a GIF instead for #screenshotsaturday
Happy #screenshotsaturday! Today I'm sharing a mockup of Advent's new✨title screen reveal✨(sound on!)
Early morning discord convo - it's been motivating having more folks in the codebase.
We are discussing enemy move previews. If a player has a tanky character, they'd likely want to move it to the front to block attacks against their squishies, in which case we should update the enemy ranges when the move preview changes.
Tricky stuff and not something I thought about.
Officially made the switch from the built-in render pipeline to URP. Feels good to be done, and it wasn't as hard as I was dreading, honestly.
Work is good but busy, a big feature delivered this week as well as planning to sell a few new products.
Planning to get back into the SP/AP systems, dragging my heels thinking about boring UI work :P
Happy 2024! New Year, new cast member: meet Cyrus, a powerful Archreaper who guides the player's Reaper party from the shadows.
A transmission from gamedev land - our December devlog just landed. Featuring my 2d lighting journey I've been yammering about 😄 https://adventofthereaper.substack.com/p/happy-holidays-from-advent-of-the
@jovialthunder ahhhhh I agree. Mixing non pixel fonts with pixel art is so jarring
@LewisHarrington I may steal their bump normal idea at around 19:00
@LewisHarrington I actually just stumbled on this video right after I posted https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zPQOHX9hiL0 - if I did it all over again maaaybe I'd attempt something like this. Theoretically yeah maybe I could add perpendicular 3d on top merely for the shadow and lighting sake, true..
