Environment for Developers

@jpm it's not quite that simple - the Solaris kernel has been 64-bit only since Solaris 11.0, but not the userspace programs - those had been kept mostly 32-bit so they could be used on either a 32-bit or 64-bit kernel, and we started converting them all to 64-bit after the #OracleSolaris 11 release - see https://blogs.oracle.com/solaris/post/moving-oracle-solaris-to-lp64-bit-by-bit and https://blogs.oracle.com/solaris/post/oracle-solaris-114-beta-progress-on-lp64-conversion - we're now up to 98.8% converted and working on finishing the last few we plan to convert and EOL'ing the rest.
@jpm stay tuned
It took longer than we wanted, but the second release of the #OracleSolaris 11.4 CBE for open-source developers and personal use is now available. See the announcement at https://blogs.oracle.com/solaris/post/announcing-a-new-oracle-solaris-environment-for-developers or the long list of changes from the 3.25 years since the last CBE release in https://blogs.oracle.com/solaris/post/whats-new-in-the-oracle-solaris-11481-cbe-release
The Oracle Solaris CBE 11.4.81.0.0.193.1 has been pushed to http://pkg.oracle.com/solaris/release/en/index.shtml
Licensed for free/open source developers and non-production personal use

Note that OpenSSL 1.0.2 is removed in this release and fully replaced with OpenSSL 3.0, you will need to rebuild any applications that linked to the system delivered libssl/libcrypto. See the OpenSSL documentation for help if you need code changes.
Updated PostgreSQL IPS packages for Solaris 11.4 SPARC are available
Versions 17.5, 16.9, 15.13, 14.18, 13.21

📦 Are FreeBSD Jails a Containers? | @vermaden
「 IMHO the term Containers is not reserved to Linux Podman/Docker solutions. The term Containers was in the BSD/UNIX land long before Docker or Podman saw any light of day – and yet – now the new kids on the block are to decide what to call a Container or not?
The FreeBSD Jails were introduced in year 2000 as a Container technology – some called it improved chroot(8) on steroids also 」
