New Open-Source Tool Spotlight 🚨🚨🚨

gVisor: a user-space application kernel designed for container isolation. It mimics a Linux kernel interface while being written in Go for memory safety, running in user space. Ideal for sandboxing workloads in Docker or Kubernetes. #Containers #Sandbox

Next-gen VPS stack: macOS + Apple Containers?

Sounds wild today — but so did Docker on Windows once.

Update: I've been awarded as a Docker Captain!

I'm honored to be recognized as part of this global community of technologists (163 (worldwide) 34 (US)) who are passionate about containers, Kubernetes, DevOps, Platform Engineering, and helping others.

The Docker Captain program is similar to the Microsoft MVP program. Being named a Docker Captain is more than just an award. It means getting early access to Docker product updates, connecting with the Docker Product groups, collaborating with other captains around the world, and having a stronger platform to share knowledge with the broader tech community.

In my latest blog post, I share what this means and what’s next. Check it out here: lnkd.in/ggnryE7t

Docker already sent some cool swag! Thank you to the team at Docker for and the container community!

Apple just made a legacy technology.

Happy to recommend for container development. If performance and memory consumption against is negligible, then it will be my top recommendation for sure.

Apple released a “Container” tool to run Linux containers natively in macOS on Apple Silicon. Supports macOS 15 but really meant for macOS 26 beta.

Morning folks, this is cool!

youtu.be/JvQtvbhtXmo

Unfortunately, it doesn’t support anything like Docker Compose or Podman Quadlets yet... Hopefully that’s coming soon.
OCI is really everywhere (whether devs like it or not…). It’s about time macOS stopped being a second-class citizen in the containerisation world.

🚀 Kubernetes v1.33's Image Volume β is on Fire! "Code-Only" Images are Changing the Game!

fed.brid.gy/r/https://forem.co

⚠️ Just a reminder, folks:

The "container" movement on Linux emerged as a convenient way to manage different, possibly conflicting settings & dependencies for different apps on a machine. "Security" by sandboxing got tacked on later, and the quality of that isolation remains LOW regardless of all the trendy project names and acronyms that have filled that space.

Data centers' standard for high security consists of virtual machines (type 1 hypervisors) or separate dedicated hardware. Ain't no way, no how is a successful datacenter going to ask a giant, complex, contorted Linux or BSD (or hybrid Windows or Mac) kernel for sandboxing services to contain threats.

If you are using containers to enhance security – on any general-purpose machine – make sure they are running as VMs, or as sandboxes on a microkernel (not monolithic) architecture.

#Apple tries to contain itself with lightweight #Linux #VM for #macOS
Swift-based containerization framework aims to improve performance and security
Based on #OCI images, users can run them in a wide variety of server environments and data centers using orchestration tools like #Kubernetes.
Mac devs already have options for creating #containers, including #Docker, #Podman, Orbstack & Lima. But Docker and Podman, at least in the past, have not performed particularly well.

So I got my first #apple #container, (a bushel?? 🤣) working. I had to ifconfig my existing bridge100 to make it work on OSX 15, the documented apple.defaults didn't take for me. Yeah, so it works if you give it a net it wants to know about. I guess it gets better with os26. #containers #unix

out put from the new apple container program to make containers, comparison to how to change apple.defaults vs just setting the bridge to be what the container wants, the apple.defaults didn't seem to work for me, but you get the gist.

During all the #hpc chatter, don’t miss this Apple mic drop moment for the rest of us not working on giantass pieces of tin and silicon. Is this finally a good way to do #linux #containers on mac? I shall compare to my current incus & colima setup. github.com/apple/contai...
