Emergent Properly

Painter, photographer and music maker. Proud father and husband. Disillusioned with the state of the internet. Particularly the popular bot-infested, commercially owned social media sites. Thus, here I am giving the fediverse a go.

INFRARED VIETNAM - Episode 1 - Nam Dinh Province

This was a side project I would like to expand upon in the future. Recorded on 3 modified full-spectrum cameras, with a number of the shots captured using (rather primitive) experimental lens hacks, cheap filters, and custom lens mounts.

Animated one of my
paintings (i.e. painted some watercolour, then trimmed, layered and made an
out of it).

Back in 2012-2015, I used to modify digital cameras to shoot infrared.

This is a test shot from an IXUS 990 IS shortly after modification. It's a composite of 2 captures.

A photo of a secluded beach, bathed in afternoon sunlight. The foreground shows windswept corrugations in the sand. The corrugations lead the eye toward a breaking wave far off in the distance. Some low hills on the horizon sit beneath mottled clouds in the sky.

Have you heard about the #REWRITE project? 🌍 It's creating tools for renaturalizing and rewilding Europe's coastal zones. With EU funding, 100 researchers from 24 organizations are collaborating.

At OpenProject, we're excited to support this impactful work. We spoke with Tamiris Moreno and Lily Puspasari from Nantes Université about how they use OpenProject to coordinate the effort:

My latest painting (week 13) - My son chasing butterflies in a field - Watercolor & Gouache.

This is the first time I've tried gouache. I just bought some of the cheaper stuff, and I'm very glad I did!

Back in the day, I was heavily into seascape photography. Here are some of my seascape images from circa 2013/2014, when I used to live in a secluded paradise. I hope to get back there someday, but in the meantime, I have a great backlog of many images to inspire my newfound passion for painting! I've shared these pics elsewhere, intermittently over the years, in a very fickle kind of way :)) I'll have to share some more soon

This was 12 weeks into learning watercolor painting. A few little practice landscape/seascape pieces.

Four small landscape and seascape paintings laid out in comic-book-style panels on a single sheet of watercolor paper. Each panel is of a different coastal setting, each at various times of the day and with varying weather.

Did this one a couple of months ago. My wife and son greeting me as I arrive home.

I ought to post here more often...

My latest painting. Still figuring out exactly what style my art is/will be. Think I'll work on improving my landscapes for a while.
"Ocean, Island and Sky."

A watercolor painting of a cloudy sky at dusk over a lightly windswept ocean, with a hilly island on the horizon.

Thought this was fitting for a first post. My avatar. I've been teaching myself watercolor painting for nearly 3 months now. This was at around week 6.

A watercolor painting of a silhouetted tree overlooking a hilly coastal inlet, set in the late afternoon.
