I think there is a lot to dig out of that press release. Lots of "responsibility back to the states" but also a bit of "reduc[ing] emissions" and some forms of "take carbon emissions and turn them into an energy source", which I am not clear on.

But because there are so many more users and instances than there were forums, we see more conflict.

Reminder that you can criticize bad people by just pointing out that they did something shitty and leave it at that

You extremely don't need to go on to make fun of their physical appearance, sexuality, gender identity, or imply that they are mentally ill or disabled

And in fact if you do it weakens the point you're trying to make and also alienates people who might otherwise be your ally

@poindexter @ieure @ifixcoinops In most cases that 45 minutes still paid off over time. I've seen so many things where people do pointless manual labour, copy-pasting content from a program to another or the likes, never realising this is not why we have computers in the first place.

Edit: Just to add to this, I've had several bosses who've never managed to understand the concept of lost productivity because the individual numbers are so small. So what if every employee in the company wastes 10 minutes every time they come back to their computer. It's just 10 minutes. For every employee, every day, for years. I've pointed out several of these time wasters that could be scripted away or dealt in other ways, but the powers that be have just wanted me to continue filling pointless reports or do other busybody work instead because that's what apparently IT people are supposed to do.

I think Molly Wood has lost the thread. Rather than believing the grand "green" plans of all the LLM companies, maybe we should be questioning the value proposition entirely. We could save a ton of emissions by simply not using these slop machines.

I'll admit that machine learning can help us solve problems and make people's lives better, but I disagree that any of the current "AI" bubble is doing that.

The whole "immigrants are important for the economy and will do the jobs you don't want to do" line of reasoning is a completely dehumanising capitalist approach. Our value as human beings should not determined by our economic output.
