A) No they won't. It's expensive as shit to uproot your entire operation, rehire, retrain, and reorganize entire production lines from the ground up, not to mention a gigantic pain in the ass.

B) Even if they do, that will leave a hole in the economy which can be filled by small business and entrepreneurs.

C) Even if it doesn't, trickle down economics is a filthy lie sold to you to keep you complacent. You can do better than a below minimum wage gig economy sidehustle. Demand better from employers.

The significant reason why the US can get away with so much is reserve status of the US dollar. In the west, we often don’t grasp just how big the continent of Africa is. It is a landmass that is as large as the United States, India, China, and Europe and then some.

@superball Second thing is IRAs can be placed into so called "self-directed" IRAs - still has restrictions, but you get a wider set of choices. The self directed options are generally riskier; only allocate part into that. To me there are some interesting worker cooperative funds which can allow self directed IRA investments. It's likely disallowed if you work for/with that cooperative directly.

@superball First things first in case they didn't already know - you can transfer your 401k into a rollover IRA and have more choice & control over it while keeping tax benefits. I did it for every company i moved on from, going from a set of 401k into one combined account at a major brokerage.

A friend would like to transfer her 401(k) so as to take her money away from big evil companies, but she doesn’t know what other options there are. I cashed out my 401(k) under the same reasoning years ago but put it toward adventures and other good causes and am cultivating community as an interconnected retirement safety net (although I’m curious about investment, too, in case a big chunk of money ever comes along). I offered to put the question forth here, because if anyone knows where to keep retirement money away from big evil corporations, they’d be on Mastodon. So . . . with the understanding that society can collapse and whatnot, in which case all bets are off, where can people safely and ethically keep their retirement savings in the US?
