#Google trips over its own words, when they sell you #Android it's the best computing device in the world that does everything. After you bought it Google doesn't let you do anything *you* want to.

#Sideload is a made-up term. Putting software on your computer is simply called “installing”, regardless of whether that computer is in your pocket or on your desk.

What Do You Talk About When You Talk About Sideloading?

What does Google?

🔥 Finally an EU leader says it out loud:

“We have been incredibly naive in entrusting our democratic space to social networks that are controlled either by large American entrepreneurs or large Chinese companies, whose interests are not at all the survival or proper functioning of our democracies.”

Slide asking: “Can AI be used for good?” Answering: “Possibly. We don’t see much proof of that.”

has just reached 1K stars on GitHub. I know that doesn't mean anything, but this is a good opportunity to sum something up.

Right now you can install it via Flathub, Arch Linux AUR, OpenSUSE Pacman repo and OpenRepos if you use Sailfish OS. According to Flathub stats only, Speech Note is downloaded 300 times per day. The last update was installed on about 20K computers! This is much more than I could have ever foreseen. This is amazing and very rewarding. Thank you, dear users!

> “Using AI is no longer optional” inside some parts of Microsoft, as Julia Liuson, president of Microsoft’s developer division

Omg I would have quit so fast, if I hadn't already left before receiving that email.

This reminds me of the Ballmer years and some of the things he mandated.

AI, at best, is an assistive tool. Certainly nowhere near necessary. God, what an embarrassment MS has become.

@sophiajt the obligation to use the AI assistant tool is not just a microsoft thing. The company where I work has the same policy. I can't understand why senior managers force me to use a tool that slows me down, makes me dumber and generally less productive. They keep saying "without it you'll fall behind", but they have no idea what a programmer's job is. They truly believe their "wet dream" that in a future they can make a profit without any labor costs is true. A surreal situation.

If you speak Swedish and are looking for fast, accurate and offline Speech-to-text, check out KBLab's fine-tuned Whisper models. These models were trained using the resources of the National Library of Sweden. Even the "Tiny" model is much more accurate than the original Whisper model.

More about this cool project: kb-labb.github.io/posts/2025-0

You can play with the KBLab models in the latest version of app.

If you are blessed with AMD card and wanna play with machine learning tools well... then you are screwed because #ROCm is a pure crap at leas on Linux. AMD really rocks with everything else on Linux desktop but not with ml.

I was looking for #flux toolset that could run with llama.cpp and I found one: github.com/leejet/stable-diffu

It can run #flux and #stablediffusion with #Vulkan as a backend. Really impressive.

I'm fascinated by how often AI autocomplete is both right and wrong.

It will often autocomplete the thing I intended, and it makes me say "oh good, I already implemented that function"

But then the IDE tells me there's no function by that name, and I realize the AI completed what I *wanted* not what I *had*.

I'm used to expecting the IDE to only autocomplete what actually exists.

Today's inspirational message:

Cartoon by @alexkrokus

Four panels.

1. A person wakes up. They are tied up, and next to another person who is also tied up.

"w-w-what?! Where am I?"

2. There's a line of people tied to a railway track, just beyond a set of points. A man with a monocle and a top hat has his hand on the lever to operate the points, and there's a tram coming. On the other track, a pile of money bags.

"You're in the trolley problem."

3. Close-up on the man with his hand on the lever. There are money bags behind him, and he's about to decide whether to send the speeding tram crashing into the money bags on the track or the line of tied-up people on the other track. This isn't going to be a difficult decision.

Person who just woke up: "I thought I would be the one operating the lever."

4. The person tied up next to him: "No, that's someone else."
