In WW2, IBM’s European operations made punch cards that helped sort the trains and the people put on the trains. Cards included a person’s status, and among the options, they could describe a person as “concentrated.” The code for gas chamber was “8.”

Tech has failed to prevent harm and enabled harm before now. But we need not help them do it. Leave meta, twitter, tiktok. If not totally, as much as you can.

When I pulled the plug in October, 2023 on my daily Twitter engagement, and went all in on the #Fediverse, I had some goals in mind, written in my desktop notebook.

- No longer get my news from a social media feed (instead reading more traditional journalism)

- Try to avoid negativity, at least as much as my personality will allow

- Seek out creative, engaging content producers

and most important:

- Always interact; stop just consuming, and don't just use the platforms as an advertising, click-driving vehicle.
