@maaikees For email, I've moved to fastmail and have been pretty happy with it.

For docs, I've personally got a Synology server and use that for syncing of my documents and can generate shareable links to documents or folders. But there's a hardware buy in for that.

If you already have a computer set up as a server, or are willing to pay for hosting, nextcloud is really quite good. That can replace pretty much every other aspect of Google workplace. I had used nextcloud many years ago before I had a Synology and liked it. If I ever decide to move away from my Synology it will likely be back to nextcloud.

He arrived 2 weeks early and already he's trying to lift almost half his body weight.

He had a slightly extended stay at the hospital but he's been home now for a few days and doing great. Eating well, sleeping plenty, farting... lots of farting. And this morning he's joining me for my workout.

Quick health/weight update.

I'm 91lbs down as of this morning and shaved another minute of my 5k time this week compared to 2 weeks ago. I broke the 90# barrier several days ago. I've got 2 more lbs to go to hit my target before baby 2 arrives. However, baby 2, for some no longer critical medical reasons, is being scheduled to arrive a week earlier than originally planned. So it's possible but unlikely I'll hit my originally planned weight target. Only missing it by a lb or 2. Of course he could arrive unscheduled at any time before that to. It's like rolling dice every day.

What a week.

Last week was an unstructured training week. Runs and rides with no training objectives other than to have fun and keep moving. Previous plan ended the weekend and my new plan didn't start until the next.

Instead of my usual night routine, I ended up spending all night in the basement subverting a flooding disaster. Sump pump couldn't keep up with the thunderstorm we had been experiencing all evening and into the night. 3 hours of uninterrupted deadlifting of a 20 gallon shop vac full of water to attempt to mitigate the flooding that was happening and get it under control.

Everything of value was off the ground or in plastic totes.

There was a lot of junk in the basement that did get wet and the fitness center got water under the rubber mats.

So I rented a rolloff dumper, filled it completely and spent all day Friday and Saturday tearing apart my fitness center to deep clean and dry out the mats.

The fitness center was back in time for the new training program to begin Sunday morning!

@ironicbadger oh no! I'm a few episodes behind right now, so it will take me a few weeks to get to this one. But super sad to hear it's going away. This was by far my favorite podcast on the network.

@FlashMobOfOne I've been where you're at now. It's tough to live with these heavier weights, but it's amazing that you're putting in the effort to get through them. I really hope you continue to see success with your efforts!

@Dowden It's a neat town. I live in the general area but have been coming to Austin regularly now for different things recently.

Yesterday I ran my 2nd 5k event of the year and shaved off over another minute on my time. The course was a bit short at 2.96 miles according to my Garmin and several other runners with their watches confirmed, so I had to estimate my actual 5k time which I estimate would have been about 25:04. Down from 26:17 a month ago.

8:04 average pace, down from 8:30 last month.

2nd in my age group and 10th overall. 68 total entrants.

Tried out a new pizza place after the race to celebrate the good results. Steve's Pizza in Austin Minnesota. One of the better pizza places I've found in the region. Will be returning there in the future for sure.

This concluded an 8 week duathlon training plan I did through TrainingPeaks to get back into racing. I'm taking a week off from structured training to do whatever running and cycling I want, then the following week starts a 20 week duathlon plan with a September 5k race in mind.

Or I could clean up all the winter dog poop 💩 from the back yard. That will probably take 2 hours. What a ... shitty ... option though.

5k race tomorrow, which means today is a rest day. I've got about 2 hours of unscheduled time right now to work with. A rarity.

So many potential projects I don't know which to choose!

I think I'll start on a few computer admin tasks and then spend some time in the basement going through junk to dispose of or sell. Goal is to have the basement cleared out within the next 2 months so I can replace the florescent hanging fixtures with new light recessed LED fixtures and paint the rest of the ceiling before we start framing the rest of the walls.

I achieved sub 190lbs this week. Putting me at 90lbs total weight lost. I brought out my try on bin and can officially fit into size 32 jeans. Down from size 40/42 to start.

I also had to cut about 3.5 more inches off my belt because I ran out of holes.

2.5 years in. Slow and steady. I still don't know where my final number will be. But my next 2 major milestones are 10 lbs from now, for a total of 100lb lost because round numbers are cool, and 20lbs from now when I'll match my lowest recorded weight as an adult. After that, who knows. Uncharted territory. Got a lot more muscle this time around and already looking better than I did last time in some ways.

There's a really nice cycling jacket I got back when I was fit last time that I kept. I can get it on but it's still uncomfortably tight. One fun goal is to be able to wear it next winter. Most of my cycling clothes are still not wearable because of how fitted they are. Even last time I was fit I had this problem.

When it comes to my health, my biggest struggle is food consumption control. If there is food in front of me on my plate, I will eat it. Regardless of if it fits my macros or is a responsible quantity of calories.

I go out to eat and order a burger with the intent to just eat a burger. It comes with fries or chips and I will eat those too.

My solution is simple, but not bullet proof. I have control while I'm shopping for groceries and while I am making the food and making the plates up. If I only put the correct quantity on my plate, I will limit myself to eating just what's in front of me. Thus I can achieve a consistent deficit and my target macros.

So I limit my eating out. And I plan ahead for those take out meals knowing what side items come with them and account for them ahead of time.

Last night we ate out and I forgot to account for the chips. Ate more calories that I would have liked but my target deficit is large enough that I was still in a deficit.

@maaikees that's awesome, congratulations!!

@cassidy never waste a moment of nap time.

I've got a project list numbered in the hundreds. It grows faster than I can tackle it. It's a mix of things I want to do (hobby style projects) and things I need to do (home maintenance/repair style of projects).

I wish I had an answer for you. It's overwhelming. Here's what I'm doing that kinda helps. I try not to look at the whole list too often. But every few weeks I go through it and pick a few projects to add to the upcoming week or month long tasks. I also schedule a lot of tasks to have a duration of a week or a whole month so I can work on them in shorter spurts without them becoming "overdue". There's a lot of projects I have that require HOURS of uninterrupted focus time. And those only get pulled to the front if an actual opportunity arises like when family is visiting for a few days and they can watch the kiddo for an afternoon. This only happens like 3-4 times a year so those opportunities are extremely limited and valuable.

I knew I would eventually start hitting walls in my fitness due to not properly fueling for performance. So this isn't surprising or even upsetting. I'm really happy that I got 200 before I capped out. It exceeds my previous max from 8 years ago and breaks the 200 barrier. And I'm still improving in other lifts and other sports. My running is getting longer and faster, my cycling ftp is increasing. And I'm continuing to go down on the scale and I can see the changes in my progress photos and how clothes fits. So everything is going in the right direction.

I did hit a new low on the scale this morning. A small drop. But I'm only a few lbs away from my next milestone target.

2025-04-03

Attempted a bench press remax today. About 4 months since my last attempt which I hit 200lbs on. Today, I hit 200 again. It felt like I had more but I failed 205 twice. Kinda disappointing.

I'll probably not bother to attempt remaxes any more until I'm done living in a deficit and can finally start eating to build muscle and strength. Up to another year though possibly less since I don't know what my final target weight is.

At least I matched my previous Max despite having lost between 15 and 20 lbs in that time.
