Europe followed the US into Afghanistan. Then US voters elected Trump and he pulled the plug.
Europe let the US lead the defence of Ukraine. And now US voters have voted for Trump, who wants Putin to win.
Europe has centered it's security politics around a US led NATO, and American voters have now voted for Trump, who wants to pull out of NATO.
It is time for a stronger, more capable, and fully independent Europe.
For our generation, this is our Churchill moment — it is time to lead.

If Ford does give us $200, I'm taking $100 to my local food bank, and the other $100 will be going to Marit Stiles. I want social housing (Homes Ontario is a start) and a functional healthcare system. It doesn't have to be perfect, but I want a government that at least tries to stop the hurt in our province.
Progressive reforms that I would advocate for in Canada:
- establish independent provincal press councils alongside a national press council. Tie all of them w an independent omnibudsman.
- reform the press subsidy system. No money for foreign owned orgs. Max subsidies to non-profit news orgs. Subsidies go only to members of a press council in good standing.
- a progressive wealth tax on wealth over $20 million, starting at 1%. Wealth, not income. Call it the Solidarity Tax on Wealth.
Not quite the outcome I was looking forward to in Saskatchewan, but props to our prairie progressives for making gains in the suburbs and cities.
If you're feeling burnt from the outcome, take time to rest and consider creating a progressive community association in your riding to help unite, educate, and most importantly, organize!
Start small and build up a broad left-wing local org; community potlucks, fundraise for your food bank. You'd be surprised how well communal orgs can sway folks.
Looking at the state of politics and the ineffectiveness of a corporate press and the resulting system of manufactured consent - I hope this US election makes folks realize we really do not need the Billionaire class. Their presence within the systems that govern future democracies: free press, free elections, governments free of regulatory capture - ultimately weakens our power as voters and invites the creation of a oligarchic system that destroys the voting powers of those without wealth.
So we're at the "Press pressured by fear of political repercussions" high water mark for Fascism in North America, I see.
Seems to me that Doug Ford really wants to be mayor of Toronto than actually premier of Ontario for some weird goddamn reason.

Meanwhile, in Northern Ontario, my district hospital was four million dollars in a deficit in 2023. In 2022, it only posted a 10k surplus. This is a district hospital w a large catchment area too.
We are a deeply unserious province. People are dying, Doug. Fuck off w the bike bullshit.

Canada needs to get serious about climate change and one of our best shields for protecting the lives of Canadians is fully funding, supporting, and staffing our provincal forest firefighters!

Horrifying because huge fires like this are going to be an annual thing in Canada.
