I am a proud father of two amazing children, I have a wonderful wife who is also a teacher. I love playing music, guitar mostly, but I like other stringed instruments. I love to make things with my hands and with machines controlled by my hands. I am worried about our children's future and feel that I most closely align with #anarchy

For people unaware of all the role-playing game (RPG) subgenres, hereโ€™s a brief explainer:

TTRPG โ€“ Tabletop RPG. The original RPG. Played on a literal table. Dice, paper, friends, arguments. Everything else evolved from here.

Examples:

  • Dungeons & Dragons
  • Pathfinder
  • Shadowrun

LARP / LARPG โ€“ Live Action Role-Playing Game. The version where people physically dress as their characters and act things out in person. Foam weapons, costumes, fake accents, and enough in-character drama to power three soap operas. LARPing as a concept goes back to the 1970s, right alongside early tabletop like D&D, but it didnโ€™t get the โ€œLARPโ€ acronym until the 1980s.

Examples:

  • Vampire: The Masquerade LARP events
  • Amtgard
  • Dagorhir

CRPG โ€“ Computer RPG. Born from tabletop, moved onto computers. The CPU handles all the dice rolls you donโ€™t want to argue about.

Examples:

  • Baldurโ€™s Gate
  • Fallout (1997)
  • Planescape: Torment

TBRPG โ€“ Turn-Based RPG. Everyone takes turns. This is the โ€œclassicโ€ RPG format, so people often just call it an RPG.

Examples:

  • Divinity: Original Sin II
  • Wasteland 3
  • Trails in the Sky

SRPG / TRPG โ€“ Strategy (or Tactical) RPG. Same turn-based idea, but on gridsโ€”squares or hexesโ€”with multiple units to command.

Examples:

  • Fire Emblem
  • Final Fantasy Tactics
  • Tactics Ogre

RTwPRPG โ€“ Real-Time with Pause RPG. You pause to assign orders, unpause to watch them happen. Baldurโ€™s Gate fans still swear by this.

Examples:

  • Baldurโ€™s Gate II
  • Pillars of Eternity
  • Dragon Age: Origins

ARPG โ€“ Action RPG. Real-time combat. No turns, no waitingโ€”just swing when you feel like it.

Examples:

  • Diablo II
  • Dark Souls
  • Kingdom Hearts

IRPG โ€“ Idle RPG. The game mostly plays itself. Perfect for people who like progression bars but donโ€™t like playing.

Examples:

  • Clicker Heroes
  • Idle Champions of the Forgotten Realms
  • AFK Arena

DBRPG โ€“ Deck-Building RPG. RPG progression tied to card decks. You level up by upgrading your deck rather than just your stats.

Examples:

  • Slay the Spire
  • Monster Train
  • Griftlands

SurRPG โ€“ Survival RPG. Harsh environments, resource scarcity, and RPG progression systems. The gameโ€™s main plot is โ€œdonโ€™t die.โ€

Examples:

  • Outward
  • Kenshi
  • The Long Dark

RLRPG โ€“ Rogue-like RPG. Procedural generation, permadeath, and heavy RNG baked into an RPG framework.

Examples:

  • Darkest Dungeon
  • Stoneshard
  • Tangledeep

SLRPG โ€“ Souls-like RPG. RPGs built around Soulsborne-style combat: stamina-based melee, brutal bosses, minimalist storytelling.

Examples:

  • Dark Souls III
  • The Surge 2
  • Lords of the Fallen

JRPG โ€“ Japanese RPG. Made in Japan or heavily inspired by Japanโ€™s approach. Console-heavy. Drama-heavy. Usually turn-based or action hybrid.

Examples:

  • Final Fantasy VII
  • Persona 5
  • Dragon Quest XI

KRPG โ€“ Korean RPG. Similar to JRPGs but usually more PC-oriented. Often online.

Examples:

  • Lost Ark
  • MapleStory
  • Vindictus

WRPG โ€“ Western RPG. Pretty much any RPG from the West that isnโ€™t imitating JRPGs.

Examples:

  • The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
  • Mass Effect
  • Fallout: New Vegas

PRPG โ€“ Polish RPG. Technically a WRPG branch, but with its own personality. Darker tone, folkloric influences, and PC-first mentality.

Examples:

  • The Witcher series
  • Seven: The Days Long Gone
  • The Thaumaturge

GRPG โ€“ German RPG. RPGs developed in Germany, usually open-world Eurojank epics with handcrafted maps, tough early-game difficulty, and an earnest-but-campy tone.

Examples:

  • Gothic II
  • Risen
  • ELEX

LatRPG โ€“ Latin American RPG. RPGs from Latin America, often mixing local folklore, indigenous mythology, and JRPG/ARPG elements. โ€œLARPGโ€ isnโ€™t used because Live Action Role-Playing already took it.

Examples:

  • Mulaka
  • Tunche
  • Cris Tales

MORPG โ€“ Multiplayer Online RPG. Small-scale online RPGs, often instanced or lobby-based.

Examples:

  • Phantasy Star Online 2
  • Monster Hunter: World,
  • Dauntless

MMORPG โ€“ Massively Multiplayer Online RPG. Persistent worlds, thousands of players, endless grinds.

Examples:

  • World of Warcraft
  • Final Fantasy XIV
  • Guild Wars 2

MOORPG โ€“ Massive Online Open-World RPG. Marketing term for the โ€œbiggerโ€ MMOs. Youโ€™ve seen the ads.

Examples:

  • Black Desert Online
  • ArcheAge
  • EVE Online

MRPG โ€“ Mobile RPG. Made for phones. Often gacha-heavy, session-based, or both.

Examples:

  • Honkai: Star Rail
  • Raid: Shadow Legends
  • Summoners War

BRPG โ€“ Browser RPG. Runs in your web browser. Lightweight, accessible, usually free-to-play.

Examples:

  • Kingdom of Loathing
  • AdventureQuest Worlds
  • Urban Dead

VRRPG โ€“ Virtual Reality RPG. Built for VR platforms. Often more about immersion than traditional RPG mechanics.

Examples:

  • Zenith: The Last City
  • OrbusVR
  • The Mageโ€™s Tale

BBRPG โ€“ Bulletin Board RPG. Forum- or post-based roleplay. Writing-heavy, rules-light.

Examples:

  • Gaia Online RP forums
  • NationStates roleplay boards
  • Myth-Weavers

So yeah, thereโ€™s a lot of alphabet in the RPG soup. Some of itโ€™s legit, some of itโ€™s marketing garbage, and some of itโ€™s just fans inventing labels because thatโ€™s what fans do.

But theyโ€™re all chasing the same dopamine hit: numbers go up, loot gets shinier, and suddenly your โ€œquick sessionโ€ has eaten the entire weekend.

Good news in hard times.

"Peak Energy just shipped the USโ€™s first grid-scale sodium-ion battery"

Good news because we must transition off carbon fuels now, and good news because its not scarce or hard to mine, or behind some prick's tariff wall, its not dirty, won't burst into flames.

Because its salt. Like sunlight, its EVERYWHERE.

So this is how Newgrounds is apparently handling age verification RE: UK's Online Safety Act.

Their ultimate solution is... unique.

Regarding age verification, here is our current plan for UK users:

1. If your account is more than ten years old, we will assume you are currently over 18. This is in line with one of the methods of effective age assurance, which involves paying a third party to match your email address against some sort of database of scraped data, which determines if your email has been in use for a long time. We have our own long-term data, so we'll use that instead.

2. If your account ever bought Supporter status with a credit card and we can confirm that with the payment processor, we will assume you are over 18 because you need to be 18 in the UK to have a credit card.

3. If your account ever bought Supporter status more than two years ago, we will assume you are over 18 because you need to be at least 16 to have a Paypal or debit card in the UK (assuming we are right about this).

4. If none of the above applies, you will have the opportunity to pay a small one-time fee via credit card as confirmation of your age.

We are not planning to offer things like ID checks or facial recognition because these require us to pay a third party to confirm each person. Because Newgrounds runs at a loss and doesn't monetize users very well, this is not an option for us. As Wired noted, Big Tech is the only winner of the Online Safety Act because smaller websites can't afford to keep up with this sort of regulation.

I made a typeface, it's called Flexflex ๐Ÿ”

I've been working on this project on-and-off for many months. Very happy to finally release it!

Flexflex is a typeface that responds to spatial requirements rather than imposing them. Built on a modular system, each letter can fit inside any given rectangular container and transforms continuously if its ratio changes. In theory, it's infinitely flexible.

For more information and interactive demos, see the website: ronikaufman.github.io/flexflex

The Pipeline: Trump Model Management and the Machinery of Exploitation

By Tony Pentimalli

If America ever confronts the full truth about elite sexual exploitation, it wonโ€™t be because Jeffrey Epsteinโ€™s secrets were finally exposed. It will be because we stopped treating Epstein as the origin and started tracing the system that made him possible.

A nice rule of thumb for setting boundaries with people is "Would the way I am setting this boundary make sense to my dog?"

Ending the interaction early? Refusing to give your time or attention? A firm, simple "no" backed by body language? Great! Proven tactics.

Using a mix of logos, ethos, and pathos to convince them to stop or make them understand what they did wrong? Nope! Your dog does not speak English.

This might seem patronizing but it could actually fix your life.
