It's baffling how many parallels there are with current political developments. I think this video should be shown in every school around the world.

No one who complains that they "can't say... things... anymore" is prevented from saying anything.

What they mean is, now, if they say those things, they are perceived as the kind of people who says those things.

What they object to is simply personal accountability.

Altogether, I really like the way americans say "can I help you?" as a polite general one-size-fits-all stand-in for "who the fuck are you/what the fuck are you doing here/how the fuck did you get in here/what the fuck are you staring at/what is your fucking problem." Such a polite way of going "bitch what the fuck."

Text: i was today years old when I found out "thou shalt not use the lord's name in vain" is meant for people who use religion to justify malicious deeds and not just swearing "oh my god" like I learned when I was a kid.

This is one of christians' favorite things to ignore. quite possibly their all-time-favorite thing to ignore.

i hate when people criticise hamlet because the character hamlet is a bad person. like first of all he is not real. and what he is is a representation of grief. the whole point is that grief and depression make you angry and annoying and obsessive and self absorbed. they make you feel like you’re the only person in the world who feels the way you do. they make you take it out on others. hamlet is a manifestation of grief taken to the extreme. and not to assume things about the personal life of a guy who died 400 years ago but. shakespeare wrote hamlet after his son died. hamlet’s flaws were likely taken from his own grief. hamlet isn’t supposed to be a good person he’s supposed to show how unaddressed grief makes you fall apart and hurt people and it’s not always pretty

I’m not a classicist, but I suspect one of the reasons so many of the Greek gods are portrayed so unflatteringly was less because they were seen as villains than because they represented their domains. Of course Zeus sometimes misuses his power, that’s what a king does. Of course Artemis’s wrath is wild and painful, that’s what nature can be. Of course Hades snatched away a young girl from her mother’s arms, that’s what death does. This is one of the reasons callout posts for some gods comparing them negatively to ‘nicer’ gods are kind of missing the point.
