As the Digital Markets Act comes into effect today, Device Neutrality starts to become a tangible reality in the EU, says @fsfe. But it's only the first step and further commitment is necessary. FSFE launched https://deviceneutrality.org/ to raise public awareness about #DeviceNeutrality. Taking control of digital devices is a matter of freedom and #FreeSoftware is key to that.

Are you forced by your #bank to use proprietary #apps? Have a look at background shared on the @fsfe 's discussion list by @floriansnow from a #FreeSoftware angle:

In collaboration with @fdroidorg, the @fsfe prepared a study for the Japanese Competition Authority HDMC on how Apple's plans to comply with the #DMA represent a risk for #FreeSoftware and #DeviceNeutrality.
Key recommendations: ๐
- Full and unfettered side-loading
- No distribution via DRM encryption
- No residency or credit requirements for
3rd party app stores
- No interoperability request forms
- More competition on trustworthiness

Adblockers are legal, German courts ruled. Their argument: users not only have the right to receive information but also to refuse it.
That sounds about right. It'd be positively dystopian if companies can claim the right to force-feed information. A win for internet user freedom :).
One of the downsides of the ruling is that a company can exclude users with an activated adblocker from accessing its website.
@fsfe wrote an interesting article about the case
