WHY HAS NO ONE YET TOLD ME TO CHECK OUT THE B-52s.

I just saw a car with what looked to be a turbocharger on its roof and I am very confused...

"No, it said 'venture capitalism'."

"Why? That's not an unreasonable-"
"Exactly! That's an intelligent answer!"
"But what about-"
"That A.I. is alive!'
"But-"

Musk has to know (and if he doesn't then Linda Yaccarino surely does) that advertisers have no interest in "blackmailing" him to do anything with the former Twitter. The platform is an afterthought for ad dollars in the first place and won't be missed when the money moves to more effective platforms. He's perfectly within his rights as an owner to make the former Twitter scorched earth for major advertisers. They'll just... stop advertising there. Zuck says thanks!

As someone who grew up in church and had a front-row seat for evangelicalism falling into tyranny and hypocrisy, this really hits hard. npr.org/2023/11/29/1215806967/

Second random musing: for whatever reason my brain thought to pair the Five Nights at Freddy's animatronics with the Benny Hill theme.

Random musing: Electron has a bad rap largely because it includes Chrome, but Chrome is designed with entirely different priorities than a UI framework; I wonder if it's possible to build an HTML/CSS/JS engine that is tuned to the UI case that doesn't let its memory usage get out of hand. Clearly, browsers did it twenty years ago...

git discussion bingo card

a bingo card with

* WTF is detached HEAD state
* I hate git
* git's design is so elegant
* I've used git for 10 years and I have no idea how it works
* commits are immutable snapshots
* just use magit
* git is a directed acyclic graph
* you have to understand the linux kernel dev workflow
* mercurial is better
* git is not github
* subversion was so much worse
* I only know 5 commands
* a branch is just a pointer to a commit
* the CLI is badly designed
* you should just read Pro Git
* rewriting history is bad
* just spend 15 minutes learning git's internals
* something about "porcelain"
* merge sucks, only use rebase
* rebase sucks, only use merge
* I just do not care how git works
* content addressed storage
* subversion was better
* something about Linus Torvalds
* I just delete my git repo if I mess it up

So work bought #Copilot for me to use, and despite my reservations it's eerie how well it can guess what I want sometimes.

For all the people asking what: Google exists. Seriously. It's often quicker to use Google than it is to ask.

This real basic example took less than 30 seconds to find: spacebar.news/p/stop-using-bra

There's numerous more.

as a passionate supporter of free speech, i'm going to sue a publisher and author to force them to take down an article i didn't like

#Twitter #ElonMusk #MMfA

41. Media Matters represents itself as “a progressive research and information center
dedicated to comprehensively monitoring, analyzing, and correcting conservative misinformation
in the U.S. media.”6 Since its launch in 2004, it has engaged in an all-out campaign of “guerilla
warfare and sabotage” on conservative news sources.7 In this context, X Corp. and Elon Musk are
a critical Media Matters target because X is the most prominent online platform that permits users
to share all viewpoints, whether liberal or conservative, and Mr. Musk is the most prominent voice on the platform and a passionate supporter of free speech. In taking down two forces it already
found objectionable, Media Matters had the chance to starve X of ad revenue and thereby silence
all of the voices on X. Nothing in Media Matters’ campaign was coincidental or accidental. And,
its guerilla attack on X is working, driving away X’s advertisers and revenue precisely as intended.PRAYER FOR RELIEF
WHEREFORE, Plaintiff X Corp. prays for judgment in its favor and the following relief:
1. Actual and consequential damages caused by Defendants’ misconduct, including
but not limited to all general and special damages;
2. A preliminary and permanent injunction ordering Defendants to immediately
delete, take down, or otherwise remove the article entitled “As Musk Endorses Antisemitic
Conspiracy Theory, X Has Been Placing Ads for Apple, Bravo, IBM, Oracle, and Xfinity Next to
Pro-Nazi Content From Its Web” from all websites and social media accounts owned, controlled,
or operated, directly or indirectly, by Defendants;
3. X Corp.’s costs and attorneys’ fees to litigate this action; and
4. For such other and further relief as the Court may deem just and proper

In “So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish,” Douglas Adams wrote that the Hitchhikers’s Guide to the Galaxy is 5,973,509 pages long. English-language Wikipedia currently contains 6,747,777 entries. That means that the size of Wikipedia has now surpassed the size of the Hitchhikers’s Guide to the Galaxy.

Just going to go out on a limb and say: if a company is laying off workers, they do not deserve to post a profit.
