Sometimes the job interview just wants to gain code exec on your machine:

I don't think they've got a job for me anymore now that I got their repos deleted⁉️

@runefish don't forget that DuckDuckGo also holds a vote to see if people are in favor of AI or not: duckduckgo.com/vote

2026-01-20

DuckDuckGo added a page that disables all AI features and removes AI-generated images from search! noai.duckduckgo.com

A screenshot of a duckduckgo home page. Instead of "duckduckgo" it says "no ai". The search bar placeholder reads "Search privately without AI". Two cards at the bottom say "We've turned off AI-assisted answers" and "We've removed AI-generated images"

If you develop for #linux please make offline installation possible, for people in countries with restricted internet. Came back home last night and today I want to install Luminance HDR but their only option for linux is via the terminal, and yet, while I can access full internet on my phone using a VPN, I can't access any on my laptop/workstations, so I can't install this program, unless I use Wine. I'm in #Uganda They cut off internet during elections and it has now been partially restored.

@DoomBananas OnePlus 6 and 6T are one of the best out there, Poco F1 is quite similar. They are relatively modern/powerful and have a pretty good linux support

2026-01-19

@5init on OnePlus 6 it has a similar useability to postmarketOS - it's definitely useable as a smartphone, but I wouldn't rely on it. The camera is bad too. And unlike pmOS we don't have an easy way to set up encryption *yet*, and I definitely don't recommend using an unencrypted smartphone

Poco F1 is pretty much the same but without audio and bluetooth so far

On Xiaomi Pad 5/6 tablets it's very useable as a daily driver

2026-01-19

@wombatpandaa @adingbatponder right now it supports OnePlus 6/6T, and two tablets - Xiaomi Pad 5 and 6.

I'm working on a Poco F1 port, and there's someone working on a Fairphone 5 port

2026-01-19

@wombatpandaa @adingbatponder Aside from the general differences between Alpine, Ubuntu and Fedora - it's an image-based immutable system. We have OSTree with all the features like atomic updates, rollbacks and rebases (which are important on a mobile device, where you can't just boot from a flash drive to fix a broken system). And the images are build and distributed as regular OCI containers because we use bootc

2026-01-18

@pavel Actually I already got the camera to work! It just crashes after half a second, I assume due to sound being broken

But yeah, I'm still trying to fix the rest

2026-01-18

@adingbatponder basically atomic Fedora for mobile devices pocketblue.github.io/

Images are based on Silverblue/Kinoite with necessary additions for mobile support

@Lehmanator IIRC it has something to do with the differences in the format of `/proc/cpuinfo` on different architectures. `/proc/cpuinfo` explicitly mentions the CPU model name on my x86_64 laptop, but not on any of my phones

until today i've been entirely oblivious to the perils of wireless headsets (i guess of the gaming kind particularly) by simply... using basic wired headphones with a jack

"you need a special kernel driver for this"

"you need userspace software to control headphone settings"

"these sound terrible by default unless you use this program to change the equalizer preset"

statements dreamed up by the utterly Deranged

@AmyIsCoolz @jorge Glad you liked our project!! Checked out your modifications - I love that #bootc makes it so easy to make your own images

This new Bluefin Wallpaper Artwork really shines on the Xiaomi Pad 5. (Easily installable via Universal Blue Homebrew tap

Thanks to the people at
pocketblue for an amazing bootc image btw (I just added a few things like brew on top)

Finally got #Pocketblue booting on my Poco F1! Still needs some work to fix audio and bluetooth, but it shouldn't be too difficult
