@rmangi thank you for bringing it back to the original point. Jeff Sutherland has said that if you’re not following all steps of the scrum guide then you’re not doing scrum. I think that goes against the values of self organizing teams. I think we agree. That said, I don’t want to be a scrum pointdexter, but two points of clarification, the scrum guide doesn’t talk about story points. It also has stopped using the word ceremony and calls them agile events now.

@rmangi how do you define a tool and a practice? Where do you see anything remotely reminiscent of a tool or a practice written anywhere within the manifesto’s four values and twelve principles? I would agree that the manifesto is in itself a tool for cultural change, but it’s contents are nothing more than a good set of concepts.

@rmangi but agile isn’t a set of tools, It’s a culture. The agile mindset should help lead a team to self organize the set of tools and processes they choose to cooperatively plan and deliver their work.

@BetaCodex @formwandler usage of the word maturity implies that there’s also immaturity. Who in your utopian beta world is the benevolent decider of maturity and how to they communicate that message to the masses in a way that’s any less authoritarian?

@BetaCodex we need to give them a title that holds some level of respect. We don’t like the word manager for obvious reasons and scrum master is kind of goofy. Give them a title that enables them to speak with confidence when mentoring someone with the word manager/director in their title.

@nielspflaeging I wouldn’t say that we wholesale agree but diversity of perspective and opinion are the heart of agility. Advancing our world forward exists in shepherding leadership to adopt a growth mindset towards value stream aligned organizations, lean portfolio and lean budgeting. Everything else becomes gravy imo. Getting teams to adopt scrum has never been a challenge. It’s project based executive leadership that gets in the way. How does BetaCodex resolve this?

@nielspflaeging I disagree… it’s not scaling agile that’s the problem, it flawed leadership principles that gets in the way of developing agile culture across all layers and levels of an organization that’s the problem. It’s the fallacy of profit/cost center funding that enables the people on the left of a value stream to walk around like some exalted employee class.

@rmangi I’ve been debating this a lot lately. The scrum godfathers have declared that if you’re not following the scrum guide to a T then you’re not doing scrum. The scrum gods also reference Shu Ha Reí as well. How are you supposed to start practicing scrum if you’re not allowed to call it scrum until you do everything in the guide perfectly?

We are not doing a good enough job to prepare early career #scrum masters to be leaders outside the team.

Scrum.Org & Alliance should re-label the role as Scrum Team Leader, or Scrum Team Coach and make a huge announcement w/ marketing campaign to support the transition and adoption of the new title. They should provide all #scrummasters with an updated course that helps them to explain their role as #agile leaders & give them tools to more confidently influence change at a #leadership level.
