My best drawings from
#drawingisfree this morning. I am trying to draw with acrylic paints. I am finding I have to start with a charcoal drawing and then try to fill in the tones with colour. It’s the tones I am trying to catch with the paint, well the way the light modulates the form. It’s really hard to get right and the first two here are pretty strong in my opinion. When I catch something of the sitter it is very pleasing and feels like a special energy has passed through me and on to the paper. I am not sure how much the likeness matters, my feeling is that the best drawings express a presence. The paint is fairly hard to control and the colours tend to get muddied together as the tendency is to use the same brush dipped into different colours so they all start to intermix.
