@polymerreaction @kendraleonard good luck! Sigh, another thing to worry about.

2023-04-14

@polymerreaction @kendraleonard considered sending it to Retraction Watch? And seeing as they have used your Uni details would your institution be able to help (it’s their reputation as well I guess!). Just horrible. Hope you can get it fixed.

2023-02-28

@polymerreaction decided to sit it out this year.

2023-02-25

@eversion well im biased of course, but anything to do with exchange evidence ….

2023-02-25

@Constababble occasionally 🤣 to be honest, since late last year my posting/interaction with all forms of social media has taken a bit of a dive.

An extraordinary pharmaceutical #chemist to celebrate for #BlackHistoryMonth - Alice Ball (1892-1916) who developed 1st effective treatment for #leprosy. Her research saved 1000s from exile & painful, ineffective lifelong treatment for leprosy, & she was a trailblazer for both women & Black scientists.

Ball studied #chemistry at UW earning a BSc & 2nd degree in pharmacy 2 years later.

@futzle bit late to the party, have a few:

(1). Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves from Nabucco, particularly the parts when the whole chorus really let rip. Vaguely remember first hearing it as a child when it was used for a British Airways tv ad.

(2) another one for Brothers in Arms - although also elicits tears.

(3) Tim Minchin’s “White Wine in the Sun”, particularly as he sings about his daughter.

(4) opening part of “Waterfront” by Simple Minds, particularly the live version shown on long past British TV show “The Tube”

(5) not strictly music/song, the Freddie Mercury’s “Ah-oh” routine with the crowd at Live Aid 1986.

(6) finally, guilty pleasure, the Galop from the William Tell overture.

In case anyone here follows me on Twitter still and has seen me post there.

I return for the #RSCPoster event. As coorganizer I'm kind of obligated to do so. I plan to be more active for the event on mastodon if enough posters make it here.

After that (despite my silly poll) my birdapp account WILL keep Posting. Jut then exclusively about transphobia, fascism and the way people like EM make the world a worse place.
I will tweet things I had previously censored myself to say. I'll do so until im deplatformed or noone listens anymore (that might be quick, lol)

I though long and hard about deleting the whole account. I cannot and will not use and support a system that fosters hate and inequality, and at best only serves to fill the ego of a maglomaniac. But deleting achieves nothing. 95% of birdapp users don't care. So I'll shout at them. Show them the side of me that is angry. Ultimately they won't care about that either. But it's better than nothing.

Your friendly neighborhood queer academic persona will remain here on mastodon :)

@polymerreaction @jonbeves I’m here! Just not posting much - also I suspect my forensic interests may be considered too niche…

First publication from my research group this year, and it’s one that I am extremely proud of.

Mind the gap: The challenges of sustainable forensic science service provision

In the paper we introduce the concept of ‘frugal forensics’ We define this as the development of resilient and economical forensic science provision that meets the needs of society without compromising quality and safety.

We illustrate how this concept of ‘frugal forensics’ can be applied in the context of latent fingermark detection in two Global South jurisdictions, and how quality assurance frameworks can be developed to support this service.

One day I will wake up in a country where the national news headlines won’t be about demonizing a marginalised section of society.

Let’s just call the UK press for what it is: bullies.

@i_jayas Bullies doesn’t quite do it - there is something about the deliberate, systematic, planned cruelty for profit (and/or power) that sickens the heart. Large part of the press here suffers from the same disease.

In September 1902, Henry Jackson--a laborer and small-time thief--broke into a house in South London and left a thumbprint on a freshly painted windowsill. He became the first person in Britain convicted based on fingerprint evidence.

Bonus points for the serious stache action.
