Somehow, I managed to combine UX design and game writing in this short little case study of something I noticed in Civilization VI. Read here:

@jaranflaath also, what @bondo said, sketching UI and lo-fi wireframes since I work in product development and handle the semantics part of a screen.

@jaranflaath reading and note-taking. Being able to write over and along pdfs has been game changer for me. I make reading notes and also edit my work.

It lets me put what I'm thinking down without having to think where I'll save the note, version the file, and find what I did later.

Quick request for everyone posting jobs on here (and thank you for doing that!):

Please add some #hashtag to your post, like #job, #jobs, #academicjob or whatever suits you. People can't follow keywords here, only hashtags (correct me if I'm wrong). So with no hashtags your job posts will only pop up for hci.social people going through the local timeline, for those who already follow you on "home", and for everyone else brave enough to open the federated timeline.

A screenshot of the mastodon web interface with four columns. Two columns showcase how it looks like to follow hashtags.

I noticed how I rarely manage to send anything in early and wondered what other writers are doing. Especially if you have a full time job and multiple obligations.

How quickly do you submit a piece of writing when you see an open submissions window announced?

Do you believe it affects your placement?

@BannedInUtah I forgot it's that time of the year again. 😅

Trying out the gamedev instance, so I should do a re-introduction toot:

Hi all! I'm Harry Alisavakis, I'm a technical/VFX artist working in the #gamedev industry!

I like experimenting with shaders, VFX and different visual looks to make colorful and chill scenes =]

I also have a blog over at halisavakis.com where I share shader tutorials and weekly compilations of cool tweets around gamedev and tech art!

Nice to meet you all! :D

@dmoonfire In creative writing workshops I've noticed how even people who specialize heavily in one style or genre benefit greatly when thrown into something totally opposite from what they're used to working on.

E.g., horror writers get a parody assignment, romance writers a horror one, and so on.

2022-11-04

@dmoonfire In general, I think I'm one of those people that don't tie up their personal style with a single genre or media.

2022-11-04

@dmoonfire In general it's SF and magical realism. When speaking about genres, I have a weird fascination with noir, mysteries, and horror thrillers.

#introduction Hi! (awkward wave)

Basically, I'm a writer looking to hang out with other writers. I work in product design and game development, and do personal fiction projects on the side. Looking forward to seeing how this community vibes.

I hope I'm posting this in the right server. 😅
