Remember that a heavier car is a more dangerous car.

Just one of many things you might consider as you look at that SUV or electric vehicle. For the vast majority of people we are better off investing in good, fast trains, buses, etc.

If you don’t like what Google is doing, spend a few moments seeing if some non-Google alternatives work for you:

Android —> GrapheneOS, /e/, Droidian, and more
Chrome —> Firefox, Safari, (Lynx :))
Docs —> cryptpad, Nextcloud docs, Collabora online
Drive —> Nextcloud
Gmail —> protonmail, mail from someone like Mythic Beasts
Search —> DuckDuckGo, StartPage

You don’t have to change everything at once, or commit to anything immediately. But it is Google, so you may be forced to move at some point!

I got into programming for idealistic reasons, try hard to hold on to that feeling. In spite of everything, I still believe computers can be empowering. But you can't delegate their care to a mechanic, certainly not a mechanic with millions of customers. These days I try to create programs that run anywhere, show off their inner workings, are trivial to modify, let you make mistakes and help you understand what went wrong. I call these freewheeling apps.

The surface can be panned and zoomed in and out. Built with orders of magnitude less code than it takes in a web browser.

This is not much spoken about but one of those Brexit outcomes that will last a long time. Even under a less Brexity government.

"British companies start to grapple with ‘Brexit 2.0’.

Trade and industry experts warn the rising volume of future EU regulations is leading to “Brexit 2.0” as the 27-nation bloc introduces rules that — even when they are mirrored by the UK — create fresh barriers to trade."

Nashville’s WTVF has published an explosive piece about newly elected Tennessee Congressman Andy Ogles (R).

The Congressman allegedly invented his entire past and resume. He lied about:

1. Being an economist
2. His college major
3. His work at a think tank
4. Being in law enforcement
5. Being an internationally recognized sex-trafficking expert
6. Being the COO of an international organization

The Tories deserve to become extinct at the next general election. They lie to us on a daily basis. They were elected to work in the best interests of their constituents, not to create niche kickback nests feathering opportunities for themselves. Deals that will actually damage industry and farming here. The planet burns and we can produce more CO2 avoiding the EU trading thousands of miles away. #Thick #ToryCorruption #ToryLies

• banks are being protected by the Bank of England by making mortgage rates more expensive,
• the people telling you that working people should expect lower spending power are pocketing seven-figure annual bonuses,
• the government is desperate to take away your human rights,
• and your right to protest,
• and your right to strike,
• and have already removed your right to escape their clutches by going to live and work elsewhere in Europe…

The uk government is acting in a more and more chaotic way. there are mps that do not attend parliament. There is the home office that is dispersing asylum seekers with no assesment 0f their needs across the country. The uk government shpuld be in special measures given its apalling policies & failure to manage Brexit, Covid & every department from transport health & education. It feels like citizens are just survivng in a rogue state.

Interesting from Shapps about Johnson…’World has moved on”.

Not sure Johnson thinks that, or a lot of his colleagues!

The Tory party are truly at war with themselves and the country are left with a useless, spineless and weak PM who has no democratic mandate…

Time for a General Election!
