I think I am the only #hamradio op on the planet who is using M17Gateway from MMDVM on an #IPv6 network. In the event I'm not, a heads up: M17HostsUpdate.sh in the repo downloads an M17Hosts.txt from dvref.com that contains only IPv4 addresses. If you want to connect to IPv6 enabled reflectors (24 of them at the time of this post), you'll need to write your own hosts file. Fear not, I've got you covered: git.home.nivex.net/nivex/M17Ho

A fellow #FediHam is attempting a difficult #POTA activation between thunderstorms. Hunt him if you can! 14.29 SSB.

@Geojoek @AF0AJ from the looks of it you're going to only have a small window before the next wave?

I'm not in a position to hunt you. We're about to engage in an activity called "dinner", which apparently isn't a ham radio related term.

Also I think I just heard thunder here. πŸ˜…

@Geojoek @croyle 🫣 yikes man! Hope for no damage! Stay safe!

@Geojoek 90 minutes left in the UTC day. GL.

At least it counts for late shift/early shift if you pull it off.

Funny conversation with my wife a bit ago. We were looking for our car in the grocery store parking lot. The state just issued us a new license plate after many years so we have a new tag number.

I rattled off the dits and dahs in morse code then said the numbers/letters in humanese. She looked at me funny so I said "what?! It's easier to remember that way!"

Now she's wondering what's wrong with me. πŸ˜‚

2025-05-17

@oe1omk @IU1KGS you're so right! The dits felt 40WPM, but the dahs closer to 35.

@johncarlosbaez thanks for this BTW. I saw your earlier post before being hit with the inevitable sensationalistic headlines.

The #CW community should usurp the term "vibe coding" and twist the meaning to be "head copy".

Helpful Fediverse: Have a nice HP85033 wooden case that I would like to reuse in my home laboratory. Issue is that the interior’s residual sticky-goo deteriorated foam is difficult to remove. Seeking a nice clean inside that I can use for other RF items (calibration kits, adapters, precision cables, etc.). Any ideas on how to remove the remaining gooey mess? (Currently working with an old toothbrush and having little success.) Thanks & 73

Photo of a wooden case originally used for a HP85033C calibration kit. Now available for general lab use (adapters & cables).Photo of the inside of the wooden case, showing gritty residue from the foam that fell-to-pieces/sticky-clumps within. This residue is difficult to remove (without knowing proper materials/technique).

@IU1KGS definitely CW. Tell them to calm down tho. πŸ˜‚

@bgarfoot I'd check hamqsl.com/solarxml.php before setting up. The solar flux index has been at or below 120 the past few days so 10-12m will likely be less optimal. Suggest 15, 17 or 20.

@mike_k underrated toot.

"Off" indeed. πŸ˜…

@AF0AJ on the bright side, my coworker sharing her screen with at least 400 browser tabs open is no longer the most horrifying thing I've seen today.

@lake In my days at the academy, we were tasked with marching in circles every Wednesday afternoon in some sort of activity called "drill practice". This involved the use of blanks in cannons at some point in the mock ceremony. This would invariably set off car alarms in the immediate vicinity. This happened often enough that the local mockingbirds incorporated the car alarms into their song.

4 frame meme from GoT. Overall caption: when you finish duo lingo and finally work up the courage to talk to native speakers.

1: "for your baby"
2: "to eat."
3: woman looks alarmed and protective of baby.
4: "she thinks you want to eat her baby."

@ko4fzg congrats!

@sergio_101 I haven't used povray in years. Is it still maintained?

@M0KHR whoa man.
