On June 3, a crowd drove federal agents out of Minneapolis following an attempted raid. On June 4, people confronted ICE in Chicago and Grand Rapids. Today, there are clashes with ICE in Los Angeles.

Much has been made of the distinction between charity and mutual aid. Charity is top-down and unidirectional, while mutual aid is supposed to be horizontal, reciprocal, and participatory. In practice, however, the majority of today’s self-described mutual aid projects remain more or less unidirectional efforts to provide goods and services to those in need.
This has contributed to a situation in which conventional non-profit organizations are rebranding themselves with the language of “mutual aid,” while some anarchists have given up on the concept entirely, fed up with a rhetoric that some say amounts to “mutual aid being good and radical, and charity being bad and conservative.”
Is there more to the distinction than this? How can we unlock the revolutionary potential of mutual aid?

If you're in the northern part of Naarm, you probably benefit from the existence of Black Spark which hosts a bunch of critical and affordable cultural programs, and is provides a cozy space to host community organising or read a life changing book.
They're really struggling to pay their rent and need to get up to about 180 supporters paying $5 a week to be sustainable. If you can afford to help with this, I can really recommend that as a way to magnify the impact of your dollars.
Last night our Co-op launched its capital raise to buy The Hub Castlemaine for the community! Pretty chuffed with the turnout we got.
Now to see if we can raise the money... Our goal is to buy it for the community and take it out of the speculative property market for good. Members can buy debentures that are like a loan, paying interest each year and then paid back in full at the end.
The non-profit Co-op will own the building, so there's no "shareholders" to cash out in the future for a big profit and quick pay day.
I've got two upcoming dates for the introductory workshop on RAD Housing that I run occasionally. If you're in Naarm and interested in hearing about another model for collective housing, do please come along.
It's an open source model, we're not selling anything. Feel free to pop it in your toolbox if it suits or steal ideas from it.
Think local, build systems of care outside of capitalism.
Rethink how you do everything and how it could move closer to community-connection and sustainable practices.

Then there is the #Preparedness Strategy by the European Commission, urging all EU citizens to have an emergency kit at home and have stocks at home for at least 72 hours. Being prepared is not bad, I'd say, but IMHO this is far too individualist. Between the neighbours and local community we care for each other. That is lesson number one from such a crisis situation. You can never have everything you need at home, and mutual support and interdependence is vital.
