The other factor is that many of the recipients are on both sites. So maybe they have already seen your output from that site and don't particularly want to see it reproduced again here.
UK-based newbie. She/her.
Remainer, leftie, all that jazz. The carousel never stops turning.

@EmmaDingle just starting it now. I think the liberties with events are easier to spot now and are quite infuriating. Especially when some dates/events are presented as facts when they aren’t!
@mmasnick oh thanks. I did what you did!
I welcome Elon Musk’s statements of intent to get Twitter 2.0 ready for the DSA.
I am pleased to hear that he has read it carefully and considers it as a sensible approach to implement on a worldwide basis.
But let’s also be clear that there is still huge work ahead, as Twitter will have to implement transparent user policies, significantly reinforce content moderation and protect freedom of speech, tackle disinformation with resolve, and limit targeted advertising.
If you run a telephone network, on the other hand, your costs go up faster as you sign up new subscribers. That's because the infrastructure necessary to connect all these people scales quadratically. To see what I mean, take a look at these stills from "The Far Sound," and old film about the Bell system: 5/
Edit: Fixed wrong word choice. Thanks to those who noticed.
@rajacexplains also, lots of people aren’t here (yet) and I think some migrants think they are but can’t be found, owing to complexity of search.
Happy birthday Clara Oswald

Hello Mastodon.
I am looking for new PhD students to come work with me at the Oxford Internet Institute in 22/23 (@oiioxford) to study the future of data privacy and digital rights, the impact of AI and algorithms on digital platforms, and help co-create better digital futures.
Boosts very much appreciated! 🐘
they put a christmas sweater on the t-rex at the national history museum in london and it's ridiculous and adorable
@EmmaDingle Federators, maybe? No idea though 🙂
The CDN wasn't working right, but my attempts to fix it were unsuccessful. I made a configuration mistake involving DNS, which unfortunately means that images are broken until DNS updates everywhere. I am very sorry about this #devops
Brexit is dead. The Sunday Times tomorrow is reporting Sunak will take the UK into a Switzerland-style relationship with the #EU. That will inevitably be the first step, leaving a sensible government to keep moving the country back to where it should be at the heart of the EU. Bring on the coming Conservative civil war but brace yourself for the return of poundshop Mussolini Nigel Farage.

To all mastodon admins:
Hi! I’m Evan Phoenix, the primary author of puma, the ruby webserver that powers mastodon!
Please reply or DM me if you need tuning help! I’ve got no officiation with the mastodon, just want to see you succeed!
(Quick Tip: set WEB_CONCURRENCY to core count * 1.5 and then tune MAX_THREADS. High thread values will see diminishing returns!)
I just dipped into Twitter to read the fantastic news that the Snowdonia National Park Authority has voted to use the original Welsh names Yr Wyddfa #YrWyddfa and #Eryri rather than the imposed English #Snowdon and #Snowdonia. It's a massive win for reclaiming our #Welsh cultural heritage. I honestly can't believe the amount of hatred, abuse and racism in the Twitter comments from English people. I've no idea why they are so angry that another country wants to use its own language. #Cymraeg 🏴
@Lynn3hives @davidallengreen Twitter put lots of people, time & expertise into making it an easy experience, so I’m not surprised you say that. It’s their commercial interest.
Mastodon isn’t driven by commercial interests: instances (AKA servers) are generally run by volunteers who may collect contributions, but aren’t getting income from advertisers who want to show you their wares
So it’s a bit more rough-&-ready. But bear with us, it does make sense before long!
