One of the host servers (Host 1) is currently down causing some Mastodon servers on Masto.host to not respond. The information I got from the data center is that the situation was caused "due to hardware or software fault on one or more hypervisor(s)" and they are working to solve the problem: https://public-cloud.status-ovhcloud.com/incidents/n0r8z8lcj1xw
I will update when I have more information.

Ok, some progress - the admin interface does remember my choices - that's encoded by the content color, not in the check marks.
Also, one post appeared in the posts column, a local one. I guess the posts/links have federated well enough to appear in the admin interface, but not well enough to be shown to users. ๐ค
#MastoAdmin Fellow admins! I'm trying to get the News and Posts columns in the Explore tabs working but anything I do they remain empty. Any idea what I'm doing wrong?
The admin pages for authorizing these also behave strangely - they don't remember my choices.
