We launched our new zine Post-Platform Digital Publishing at Miss Read Berlin last week with a presentation at Conceptual Poetics Day, followed by a conversation at Station of Commons x Miss Read Radio. Post-Platform Digital Publishing Toolkit is a project exploring how to overcome the limitations of digital publishing today, on social media or elsewhere online, and advocates self-hosting methods for artists and artists‘ book publishers. The project started as a documentation of our quest to break free from the ever-enshittifying products, services, and platforms run by the oligarchic big tech and move towards self-hosting our data, websites, and services at Well Gedacht Publishing. The wiki features guides on how to self-host static websites and online services at home, create your own RSS feeds, and use the open source tool Pandoc to convert rich text files to HTML.

Contributers are Well Gedacht Publishing, Cypher Sex, Chris Dake-Outhet, illustrations done by Fadi Houmani.

The zine is a result of wiki2print techniques, using DokuWiki2Markdown script by mm503, pmcwiki2print by Dusan and Pandoc. The wiki, https://toolkit.wellgedacht.org, is self-hosted by Well Gedacht Publishing in Berlin.

Adobe is now processing all your PDFs in the cloud, by default. The setting to “Enable generative AI features in Acrobat” was on, and I didn’t know it until I opened a document and Adobe asked me if I wanted a document summary. It’s annoying to have to click “No,” so I opened settings to disable the prompt.

THE PROBLEM
I sign Non-Disclosure Agreements for many of my clients. Adobe is a potential leak of protected information. I don’t know what Adobe does with this information. I don’t know what they store, or for how long. I don’t know what country (or countries) the data is stored in. I don’t know what LLMs are trained with this data. And I don’t need to know. What I need to know is that they won’t use default opt-in as a legal excuse to wiretap my information.

I recommend that you check your Adobe settings on all devices, for all Adobe accounts.

Une variante de la Times : pour une esthétique par défaut inclusive

Il y a presque deux ans maintenant, nous étions en résidence au #Mudam à l’invitation de Line Ajan et de Clémentine Proby. Alors que nous concevions la nouvelle version de notre site, nous avons imaginé la possibilité d’étendre le jeu de glyphes de la Free Serif, une police basée sur la Times New Roman, en lui ajoutant 92 nouveaux glyphes post-binaires et inclusifs, en partant du principe que l’esthétique par défaut se doit d’être inclusive.
