People, please start using CamelCase (aka PascalCase) to break apart words in #HashTags.

It makes it easier to read and more #accessible. Single words are OK to keep lowercase, unless they are proper nouns šŸ˜‰
It makes it easier to review if you're a #MastoAdmin.

#CamelCaseAllTheHashTags

#Mastodon #HashTag #accessibility

@jamesbritt also shared you can #Use_The_Underbar!

@blindscribe says: accessible-social.com/copy-and

Please #boost this for visibility and to help improve the lives of many people.

@mastohost @nova and critically, I already reserved myself @zef@hachyderm.io

2022-12-26

Considering moving over to Hachyderm so I can have a useful local and federated timeline. I was on mastodon.technology before, which shut down and there was no obvious place to go. Now I’m on a single user instance on @mastohost which works great, but is… lonely. Been listening to and following @nova and friends and I like what they’re building. šŸ¤”

Once upon a time I also tried bullet journaling. It ended more or less like what’s described here. Nice article: What keeping a bullet journal can teach you about using to-do list apps theverge.com/23520891/bullet-j

@Willyfrog what are you using to send mail? Getting that to work reliably was the reason to pay for Ghost hosting rather than self hosting.

2022-12-26

@Willyfrog yep. Worked now. Are you self hosting this one?

@naugtur that would help

@Willyfrog @nixCraft markdown is code!

2022-12-26

@Willyfrog @nixCraft you write readmes? I usually get stuck after spending half a day getting a webpack build to work.

Step 0 - get a great idea

Step 1 - spend many hours finding the perfect domain

Step 2 - register domain

Step 3 - go to sleep

Step 4 - init new git repo and start committing code

Step 5 - over a few weeks, begin losing interest in the project

Step 6 - year passed. Domain expired

Step 7 - go to step # 0

the sad reality of open source software development

In short: folks love the amazing decentralised encrypted comms utopia of Matrix. But organisations also love that they can use it without having to pay anyone to develop or maintain it. This is completely unsustainable, and Element is now literally unable to fund the entirety of the Matrix Foundation on behalf of everyone else - and has had to lay off some of the folks working on the core team as a result.

@rodhilton Right on the money. What I still was on the fence about was management style, but it’s also becoming quite clear that most of his companies operate DESPITE his management style, likely not because of it.

@carnage4life What I found is that once you manage to remove judgment, feedback is significantly easier to accept for the other person whoever you are: boss, peer, direct report. Honestly, I can’t speak to minorities, but I would assume it’s the same.

2022-12-25

@carnage4life They may be less direct, usually sound nicer, but most importantly: people actually hear you.

2022-12-25

@carnage4life Let me add another orthogonal aspect: effectiveness. Both of your examples use highly judgmental words: ā€œbad ideaā€ and ā€œbeing stupid.ā€

While being direct ā€œhelps peopleā€ potentially, it really only if they accept the feedback. Using judgmental language like this often leads to a shut down: they only hear the judgment, nothing else. I find sharing observations in the nonviolent communication style to be more effective.

Merry Christmas everyone! šŸŽ„šŸŽ

Here’s another 1000 TestFlight access slots for Ivory.

1. This is an early alpha. Many things are missing and consider everything a work in progress.
2. Send us feedback via the contact us button in the settings or beta@tapbots.com. Don’t use the TestFlight feedback system. We don’t read those often.
3. Enjoy using an alpha product! šŸ˜‡
