I repurposed an old Google #AIY Voice Kit to use @openai Realtime API with #WebRTC. Vibecoding failed, so I did some old school research+trial&error.
My main learnings:
· Pass all the same WSS messages via Data Channel
· Ephemeral tokens not always needed
· API is a lot like WHIP (no SDK needed)
· Best practices for managing gUM and RTCPeerConnection still apply (not in docs)
· Use speech events for voice functions

@therealpembo @futurebird Yeah, I had one running Google’s #AIY project on one partition of a microSD card and #Mycroft on another.
What equipment did you hook up to it? I just used what came in the AIY kit.
#microcenter had version 1 #aiy voice kits for $5 - an embarrassing large stack of them. Worst-case it's a decent speaker and a clicky button with an LED and a chance for soldering practice
@Argus I got frustrated because I couldn't get #mycroftai working with bluetooth. Seems like a known issue,. I fought with it for a couple of evenings. Am thinking about trying an #AIY image for the Pi. It uses Google Cloud Platform. Flashed the image to an SD card already, but the Pi is all the way in the other room....#RaspberryPi #DIY.
Fully assembled on a mini tripod. Love the cardboard experience. I wonder if there is any packaging software out there that helps you design these kits
