Anyone know how to set #APRSDroid to pass/receive messages from a specific group? When connected to APRS -IS. I've tried setting "filter g/FEDI" but that doesn't seem to work

Every few months I think about getting an #APRS setup for my truck and then I get overwhelmed with all of the options. There are so many different things that I could do with APRS that it makes me have a bit of #AmateurRadio #HamRadio decision paralysis.

The core functionality I want is tracking. It would be nice to have two way messaging. It would be cool if I could connect a phone or tablet to it when I want to use something like #APRSDroid.

Received the HG-UV98 radio today. I wasn’t too sure about what I would think, but honestly, it works really well! I paired it with an old Android tablet and it seemlessly beacons from the radio and allows for messaging via the tablet at the same time.

This is probably a real dumb question, but can you receive packets with #APRSdroid without enabling tracking? My phone does not decode anything until I start tracking, but I don't understand why that limitation would be in place.

I've been trying to get #APRS to work on a Baofeng HT. Lots of failed attempts, finding I can receive packets but not transmit (never getting PTT)

Attempt 1: #APRSdroid + BTech cable.

Attempt 2: RPi 4 using digirig + BTech cable.

Attempt 3: Linux (crouton) on Chromebook + digirig + cable

Found notes about how to test the cable itself and realized *not* compatible with DigiRig (ordered new cables)

Attempt 4: Skip the HT and use FT857 + Linux + DigiRig. Success!

APRS map from my #BicycleMobile operations this morning on the Lakelands Trail State Park starting at Stockbridge, MI. This is using #APRSDroid to send spots.

Looking at doing #APRS #BicycleMobile, through some kind of interface to one of the radios I already own. I have #APRSDroid for my Android phone.

Two options:

A friend from the ARROW club has a rather well used #Mobilinkd Bluetooth #TNC. (It needs a few parts and maybe a repair, but I think I can make it work.)

I see on Amazon and AliExpress an APRS-K1 cable, which would handle getting audio levels right to plug into the audio jack on an Android phone and the K plug for my HT.

@gm4slv Oh yes the #TweedRide was good fun! Nice to see people dressed up.

Part of the route was on a bicycle trail by the river here, scenic and flat and no cars. The "Border to Border Trail" is the name, the plan underway is for it to go from one end of the county to the other.

Along the river is apparently an APRS dead zone here, I have been doing #APRS on my cell phone with #APRSDroid but want to try it via RF as well to see what the actual coverage is.
