I have been moderating some live streams for more than 10 years, and during the day I work with QA specialized in automated testing for 7 years. My social media usually is a mix of:

• games (I graduated in game dev)
• memes

:blobfoxpeekowo: I already had a little bit of contact with Fediverse through accounts using Bridgy to Bluesky (where I'm more active because I'm an ATProto nerd, and I'm involved in some interesting projects with it), and I also read about ActivityPub for some time. Until I decided to jump in for real through Wafrn (that mixes AP and AT, which I find very cool).

As I said, I'm still more active over my Bluesky account, which Wafrn people can find directly in @vicwalker.dev.br, and Fedi people can interact through Bridgy @vicwalker.dev.br@bsky.brid.gy.

The Bluesky Android mobile app is telling me I cannot use Bluesky unless I provide my date of birth.

(I haven't looked at Bluesky in a while — so, this might not be a new thing.)

I wonder if you can get around this by just installing an alternative (3rd party) Bluesky mobile app.

I still think the ideal protocol does not exist yet, but with all the currently existing ones and counting the VERY HUMAN FACTOR Activity Pub and specifically the Mastodon implementation by far and large is the current best one FOR MICROBLOGGING.

The deeper I read, the more I compare, the more I realise Activity Pub while not perfect, is a masterpiece.

And in the bits that's not perfect, Big O notation and scaling issues that have been thought undoutebly for many years HAVE A LOT to say about why.

As per BSky, only user-chosen composable moderation and custom handles are the only things salvageable

Don't know the exact reasons, but many Mastodon instances - for eg., the three major players: mastodon.social, mstdn.social, and hachyderm.io - are also asking for "Date of birth" on their "Create account" pages. So also my WAFRN instance.
