Just was made aware that the #StoneRoses innovative #BritPop bass player Mani passed away. His fluid & funky Rickenbacker 4005 basslines helped form a unique sonic perspective, adding dance floor sensibilities to their psychedelic pop pastiche, that helped make their early records so refreshing, influential and successful.
Gary "Mani" Mounfield's "baggy" style of string plucking is clearly noticeable on records like "She Bangs the Drums" and "I Am the Resurrection"...The Stone Roses' split in mid 90's after the 5 year drug addled wait for only their 2nd album, and Mani soon joined another key UK scene band, Primal Scream where his work was lauded with NME's tongue in cheek "Godlike Genius Award" in 2007. He stayed with #PrimalScream thru 2011 and later he reunited with the 'Roses on some 21st century farewell tours and recordings.
The Stone Roses'very first break thru music videos in 1989 were shot far from their #Madchester home base, thousands of miles away in the Canary Islands on the volcanic landscapes of #Lanzarote...and Mani can be seen with the lads backing up the hazy #AcidHouse era arrogance of lead vocalist Ian Brown in the clips shown here.
Here embedded in the linked page they are performing "Fool’s Gold” and “I Wanna Be Adored,” ...
