An Alan Furst novel just begs to be read on a train.
I finished reading The World at Night by Alan Furst.
Atmospheric. Poetic. If you've ever wanted to read a subtle novel about spies in WWII that asked why people resisted the Nazis at the risk of great personal sacrifice, this is the one. It'll have you wondering about yourself.
The air was ice, the heavens swept with winter stars, white and still in a black sky.

I just finished Dark Voyage by Alan Furst (very good!), and I'm just starting The Lions of Al-Rassan by Guy Gavriel Kay.
Finished reading Dark Voyage by Alan Furst about a Dutch tramp freighter that gets involved in clandestine operations during World War 2. Lighter on plot, heavier on atmosphere and events. Well researched, and such a lovely narrative style. Not particularly violent, especially given its setting. Highly recommended, as they don't seem to publish novels of this caliber anymore.

tl;dr - Amazing atmosphere in this WWII novel, but a plot that lacks connection.
Finally finished Night Soldiers by #AlanFurst. It was a bit of a slog. He's certainly changed his writing style since he first started this series of #WWII novels. Great atmosphere & research, but too many characters for him to handle well. I'd recommend anything he published between 1995-2006, though.
@gertdebra I am #nowreading Night Soldiers by #AlanFurst, but I've been at it for months & months. I should have time to finish it this week.
(I prefer the #books hashtag, but it seems to be a bit of a hodge-podge on here.)
@GinnyMcQueen #NightSoldiers by #AlanFurst. I've been busy, so not much time to read. #nowreading
