As I come to understand my #autism better (I was only diagnosed 7 years ago, aged 63), I realise I have lived a hopelessly innocent and naive life.
I have always tried to live my actual real life trying to be decent (etc). I thought everyone did the same. What a fool I have been. 😢

@KatyElphinstone Autistic children learn very quickly to be or become "hyper-independent". Rejected by the outside (NT) world, they create their own internal worlds, and live there.
Don't we all do that? I did. I didn't want to, but I could see no other choices or options. What I really wanted was to be a member of the group or gang, as all humans do... 😢

I think your feelings are quite common amongst us. Not so sure how common they are among NTs, though.
I often feel it would be nice to reconnect with the (very) few people I've ever been close to during my life. Just as you seem to.
Awareness and knowledge are good, but there's always more. For example, EDS (and similar conditions) are common among people with #autism, as well as ME and other conditions.
