Holmes on the moor in the dark thick mist with Dr Watson, both holding a hand to their ears and holding revolvers - behind them the bloody body of the Baskerville hound lies riddled with lead partially obscured by the banks of mist. The shouts for help are coming from from the villain in the foreground with only his eyes ears and nose visible above the morass who is about to sink out of sight despite a pulling out a few tufts of grass.

Holmes is saying: “I’m a bit deafened with all this gunplay Watson. Can you hear anything? such as; along the lines of; ‘…sinking in a bottomless quagmire…’, ‘help help’ and such like?”

Artist in a worn jacket and cords with a wooden leg and a stump for a right arm explaining his painting to a potential buyer in a macintosh and waterproof trousers. It is a large oil portrait on the wall of a zombie on a dark and stormy night up to its armpits in murky water wading towards the viewer.

The artist says: "That giant zombie there took me by surprise you know. I managed to bash its brains out with my machete before I realised I had lost an arm.

It was of good fortune that I am left handed.

It wasn’t until I toppled over that I knew that I had lost a leg also.

Bear in mind that I had to paint its great big face from memory as I had made such an thorough job of bashing its head in.

Good job I have a good memory and heal quickly.

It’s not easy painting from real life – or rather real undead, har har."

A red haired customer wearing a bib and holding a knife and fork sitting at a chequered cloth table is developing a phobia (going by his expression and physical recoil) of the snarky obsequious waiter's unexpected detailing of peas and only a single peas and one single type of pea at a time served up via a silver teaspoon in this specialist restaurant he has decided to frequent.

The large plate glass window behind him features a tinted engraving of a botanical illustration of the pea plant and the legend, seen reversed in mirror image: 'Ye Old Beane, Fine Cuisine,' and looks out over a typical high street.

He says:
"And if sir will only take a taste of the Thomas Laxton I am dropping here – you will find that unlike the sharp, though sweet nippy quality of the previous Early Perfection you have just swallowed – that it will be like a cleansing breath of fragrant herbs over the palate.

And is sir not going to sample the delights of Misty Shell, Kelvendon Wonder, Wando, Sabre, Green Arrow and Garden Sweet that you still have left on your plate?

Do you want me to remind you again which one is which?

For a man such as yourself I heartily recommend the Garden Sweet variety, but remember! Scoop it up. Do not stab it."

Isaac Asimov and Terry Pratchett working to get a Golem under control in a typical alchemists lab complete with the usual accoutrements, a human skull on top of a filing cabinet, the live owl on a perch, the stuffed crocodile hanging from the ceiling, the usual glassware, a large kiln, bookshelves of books, pots and pottery and everything covered in red paint except the two authors and the golem holding a paint tin and paintbrush dripping red paint. Asimov is about to drop three chits of paper into the golems head while Terry holds the top of the head open. He says:
“Right. Are you sure your written controls for golems are perfect this time Asimov? I am not wanting this thing giving me any more maliciously creative bone headed by the letter harassment with this by the letter work that it gets up to.

It painted everything red – it was only supposed to do the pots.”

Two monks wearing monkish robes with hoods, one with an apron covered in black dust and holding a shovel, the other with bread beside him wearing an asbestos glove that he's using to hold the end of the toasting fork in the plasma stream that shot from their small pet dragon's mouth. The fork has twisted and blackened and the piece of bread on the end is now an evaporating cinder. He says: "You have given him too much coal have you not! You know it results in the toast getting scorched and cracks in the flagstones."

On a path through nice countryside a middle aged pot bellied hiker with compass on a string and a map in a map protector swings his broken arm in a cast to point behind him and clobbers his similar but frosty looking wife, pole-axing her and rendering her unconscious with a bloody nose and droplets flying through the air. His friend with a back pack and a massive crossed set of sticking plasters across his swollen bruised face on the other side of the gate says: "You've done it again. That's why no one will sign your cast. And your wife is going to be much more furious than I was when she comes round."

But the limits of a major's mindset help to explain Hegseth's preoccupation with "lethality" and the "warrior ethos." That's very much in keeping with the outlook of a younger officer who is laser-focused on tactics-i.e., finding and destroying the enemy. But, as Ty Seidule, a retired Army brigadier general who now teaches at Hamilton College, emailed me: "When has lethality been an issue for the U.S. military? We have outclassed everyone on the planet, by far."

The most interesting explanation I've heard so far for Hegseth's troubled tenure comes from a retired Army officer who described the defense secretary to me as a "typical major." No insult intended to majors! A former senior military official told me that "most majors I know would do a better job than Hegseth is doing right now ... because most majors know just how much they don't know."

Last Saturday I experienced a severe panic attack. I couldn’t breathe, I was hysterical, and I was convinced I was going to die. I am so thankful for my husband. This was a true test of for better or for worse and I am so blessed that he was there with me. He kicked into action and I felt so protected during such a vulnerable time. We’ve had so much happen to our family recently. I am fine today and doing the work to get and feel better. #alttxt #alttext posting this because we’ve got a lot going on and we NEED to prioritize mental wellness. It’s not a choice, it’s what we need to do to survive this life. ❤️❤️

@Will213 a share is just as important! Sharing this is how we’ve managed to reach enough people to raise $10,000! That money was used to get Jordan to the TIRR Memorial Hermann Research center! It’s also how we will get him home. It cost $5000 to take an ambulance from dallas to Houston. (My mom took this picture right before they left. She followed them there) #alttxt #alttext

watching Tim McGarry's BBC program on Norn Iorn - it is reminding me of one of the few things I really miss about the bird site - the fantastic account run by a wit who spoke from the pov of the Irish Border. Anyone knows who it was, tell them they'd be more than welcome here.

#AltTxt image shows the cover of a book called I am the Border so I Am from the Twitter hit @BoderIrish, with an elephant wrapped across the front and back of dust jacket.

#DIYDay as the plaster on the ceiling is drying... it's showing the old artex swirl pattern through it... An odd effect caused by the thickness of the new skim coat as it covers the highs and lows of the grooves in the texture beneath.

Hard to see as clearly in a pic as I can in real life... Just thought it was quirky.

#AltTxt is literally watching plaster dry.

@altbot Altbot, I love you. But you have a flaw in your design. Rather than bitch to me about adding to my posts, why don't your dweep tech designers tweak your to add the alttxt directly and not add it as a post. Cut down your wasteful bitching and solve the real problem.

Recently, I implemented an auto-generating #AltTxt feature for images at @_random_cafe and @_random_restaurant using the Google Gemini AI API. Over the past few days, I've found its image description capability incredibly impressive—sometimes, it catches details that humans can easily overlook.
