#AndroidTranslationLayer

@CoMaps Thanks for working on this. Will there also be a "desktop" version for #LinuxPhones? Or a Linux port using #AndroidTranslationLayer?

@Otis_Scops @linmob @awai @Liberux Like using Linux users a left out of tons of useful software for Windows and MacOS? ;-) But it surely will be possible to run Android apps using #waydroid (Containerization, like docker, see waydro.id/) and perhaps using #AndroidTranslationLayer (like wine, see gitlab.com/android_translation) in the future.

FOSS NEWS

NewPipe is now available on Linux, Flathub, thanks to an experimental compatibility layer, Android Translation Layer (ATL):
ostechnix.com/newpipe-for-linu
(It works pretty decently. It has some contrast issues in dark mode, and audio playback is pretty glitchy, but overall it's pretty impressive than now a few Android apps can also run on Linux without the need for an emulator like Waydroid.)

Mastodon shifts platform control to a new European nonprofit entity:

Odysee dropping Stripe from its payment system, due to Stripe wanting to force KYC on Odysee users:
odysee.com/@Odysee:8/weredropp
(What the heck did Stripe smoke? A hallucinogen which made them hallucinate that Odysee is their platform? Or they got payed by the US authorities to kill the last remnant of LBRY? 🤔️ If latter, then nice try, losers)

Bitwarden native Android app released:

Joplin 3.2 released with OneNote import option, multi-window support, Freehand Drawing plugin now built-in offering refined drawing and Markdown editing capabilities:

(Cool updates, I use Joplin every day for my university studies, I really like the option to nest notebooks, have both Markdown and Rich Text editor, write custom CSS to customize the rendering of notes. The Templates plugin is also really useful)
(Electron haters gonna say it sucks but who cares lol)

Forgejo 10.0 released with revamped repository dialog, ability to modify Git notes via API and UI, button for creating Markdown table, consolidated view of all issues and pull requests etc.:

For #android apps on the desktop you maybe used #waydroid (an Android-based container). That runs pretty much everything but is of course a bit heavy and not as natively integrated.
Now there is #AndroidTranslationLayer (#ATL) which implements APIs one by one, a bit like #winehq. It it still in early stage and a lot or stubs are missing for apps to start (or API implementations missing to actually work fully). But they run #NewPipe and #WhatsApp already.
