New tool day. I count it as #SlideRule related.
This is an #Aristo 1100 Planimeter, a tool to measure areas from drawings or maps.
The QA sheet inside dates it to about April 1962.

Do I have any clue how it's supposed to work? Nope.
Do I have a manual? Also, nope.
What could possibly go wrong? πŸ€ͺ
Oh. Not to forget: most ends have sharp needles and pointy ends. Totally safe for somebody like me.

A grey metal tool inside a velvety cushioned box.
The tool has a few scales and wheels on one component. Other pieces may or may not attach to it.

Did a cool maths workshop with @Ayliean earlier at and spotted this beauty on the wall. Immediately thought of @VintageProject :)

Beardy me next to a huge maybe 3 meter long sliderule.

I had to use the #SlideRule early in my #engineering education, many decades ago. Since then, I've collected many slide rules from round the globe. Of those, my absolute favourite is the #Hemmi 130W Advanced Darmstadtβ€”one of the most basic models.

I admit that this is rather a brazen statement in the face of #FaberCastell 2/83 N Novo Duplex, #Aristo 0969 StudioLog, #Nestler 0292 Multimath-Duplex, #K&E 4081-3 Log Log Duplex Decitrig, and many other duplex, advanced, engineering slide rules.

I really like how these seem to be coming up more regularly.
#Aristo Studio 868.
Really handy for your EDC. πŸ˜‰

Just for fun: This is the #SlideRule that started it all. My dad's #Aristo #Studio.
He used it during his communications engineering studies in the early 1960s.
(I think he started around 1960, before my parents were getting married in 1961. The toaster we still use was one of their wedding presents.😊)

He gave me this one some time before I took up my own studies, but I didn't learn how to use it until well after my university time. He tried to teach me but gave up, eventually.

The slide rule my dad used for his engineering studies in the early 1960s, the ubiquitous Aristo Studio.
It is an Astralon construction and came in a cardboard case back then, before Aristo moved to plastic cases.

Had a game of #aristeia with a friend at my local store. Love trying out newly painted miniatures for the first time.

A nice thing about Aristeia is that minis come back when they die. Important since new paintjobs die first.

Re FUBAR:
Here is a detail of the trial one. At some point the frame bracket broke and it seems it was glued.
It holds up fine but looks terrible.
The damage wasn't visible in the offer but the spares make up for the 10 EUR I paid.
So this #Aristo #Studio donated its case, cursor, and accessories to other slide rules. Fair enough.

After new glues arrived today, I tried and glued the two broken #Aristo #Studio slide rules.
One is pretty much fubar, so that was the trial run. Had a bit too much glue and thus some cleanup to do, but it worked just fine. Second one is supposed to be used, so I was a bit more careful apied what I learned.
Pretty nice #SlideRule again. Not a shelf queen but very well usable.
Awesome!

What grind my gears...
When sellers hide damage, no matter if intentionally or because they don't care.
See this #Aristo #Studio 0968 here? It's rough and has quite a bit of use, but also has a broken frame.
Yes, it can be patched, but why not tell beforehand?
I paid 12 EUR and the cursor alone makes up for that, but I'm still disappointed by people.

I have a frame and slide from one of the recent repairs, I think. πŸ€”

Checked and yes, I have a better frame. Also needs gluing but that's quite inconspicuous as it's just a glue bond that broke, rather than the whole bracket.

Crusty little bugger.
An #Aristo #Studio 868 #SlideRule.
Had a lot of fingerschmutz and corrosion. The green stuff probably comes from the golden decal under the cursor and doesn't clean off completely.
Had it apart to the last screw. A lot of cleaning and a proper adjustment later it's good to be used again.

The sleeve needs sewing. So far I gave it a little shine. Might visit my trusted shoemaker around christmas. Maybe he can help me out.
I wonder if these could be reproduced. Basically just two leather pieces sewn together. The most difficult part is this stamped logo.

Back in the #Aristo M75.
Decided to give it a battery in isopropanol to remove flux residue and dirt.
The red brick turns out to be some kind of potted circuitry. Not sure what that is as I haven't found any schematics yet.

Now that my mojo (or whatever) has somewhat returned I put this on the list.
They've been sitting in a box for way too long.
This is the basis for a class kit of #Aristo Studio #SlideRules that I collected over the last years. They need cleaning (the cases are already soaking), minor repairs, and probably adjustment for the cursors.

Side note: They are from different revisions. Colours differ, and the cursor design went from metal to plastic in different shapes.

Edit: Typo at 'mojo'

Apparently, I can repeat most of my #SlideRule shenanigans over here. 😁
Here are my favourite ones. #StudioLog and #HyperboLog by #Aristo.
Both were top of the line slide rules for scientific work. (as far as I know)
The HyperboLog is quite hard to come by while the StudioLog surfaces in waves every now and then.

Two slide rules on the bench. Top one is an Aristo 0971 HyperboLog, the lower one is an Aristo 0969 StudioLog.

A little bit of history: #Aristo (Dennert&Pape) in Hamburg was one of the leading manufacturers of slide rules. With the upcoming turn to electronic calculators they tried to keep up with these. The M75 was produced 1975-1985 and was intended as a successor to slide rules. As far as I can tell that did work, just not for Aristo.

Going by markings on the box one of these was purchased in 1976.

Well, one is flakey but somewhat working, the other remains dark.
I guess they need a proper clean and a little bit of TLC.
