A snowplow operator who drove a tractor through a protest on a sidewalk last month has been permanently taken off city work.

“We can confirm the contracted employee identified in this incident is no longer performing work on city of Toronto contracts, including current and future operations, as the behaviour displayed does not reflect city values and contravenes city policies,” said Russell Baker, the city’s director of media relations and issues management, in a statement to the Star.

Niggenaber declined multiple requests to comment on the incident or her social media posts. In emails to the Star she said: “If anything is put up that’s untruthful you will be liable to legal ramifications. Do not put anything on the news ... Do not contact me again or you’ll be charged with harassment. Got it?”

Niggenaber’s X account had replied to other users throughout November about her distaste for Muslims, Islam and protests. The public account turned private on Monday afternoon.

A few hours after Niggenaber drove the tractor through the crowd on Nov. 18, the X account under her name said “ban it!!!” responding to a post asking whether Islam should be banned.

The Toronto Star points out that no one trusts the cops.

Mahmoud said he doesn’t plan to file a police report because he doesn’t trust the police service because of how it’s handled and clashed with pro-Palestinian protesters in the city.

Mahmoud attributed the fact that no one was injured to “the community looking out for each other.”

In a statement, senior city spokesperson Russell Baker said the snowplow was driven by a contractor conducting a “dry run” ahead of the winter season.

Incident celebrated by Israel supporters

After video of the incident spread online, some Israel supporters were quick to make light of it. “I can’t help but find this amusing,” National Post columnist Terry Glavin posted on X, while others joked that they wanted to buy the plow operator a beer.

“We need more tractors to move Hamas gangs off our streets,” Meir Weinstein wrote on X. Weinstein was formerly the national director of the Jewish Defense League, a far-right political organization that was designated as a terrorist organization in the U.S. (Canada did not apply that designation). He now heads the group Israel Now!

On Thursday, Weinstein shared another post about a Palestinian solidarity demonstration happening on Nov. 23: “Is the Tractor coming to Bathurst and Sheppard?”
