Just been watching a classic movie, Young Einstein. Still as crazy and creative as it was when it was released in 1988. Excellent soundtrack too.

Remarkable that Yahoo Serious wrote, directed, produced and starred in it, an incredible achievement.

These caramel chews are delicious, with a rich, buttery flavor that masks the taste of mushrooms. They provide a mild, consistent high and are a good choice for anyone looking to enjoy the experience in a sweet, bite-sized form.

This evening's viewing distraction: 1981's Aussie flick Road Games, with Stacey Keach and Jamie Lee Curtis. I think the last time I saw this it was from the video rental store (on Betamax!)...

Watched *Taverna* the other night. As it is First Fleet or [ Oz / Australia/ Invasion ] day today or tomorrow here in Oz, here is a movie that's up there with "The Castle ". Its charming and authentic, not perfect, humble , captures a version of one real Australia.

Great cast great production.
Solid Script.

""The Taverna follows one utterly chaotic evening in a family run Greek restaurant.
Taverna owner, Kostas gets more than he bargained for when his popular belly dancer refuses to work to avoid her ex-husband and his new girlfriend, and is replaced at the last minute by one of his eager waitresses.

...

It all adds up to a **darkly comic ride into the wild side of life, love, food and cultural differences.**"

Its Flamin Excellent !

Celebrating 50 years since its release, Peter Weir’s ‘The Cars That Ate Paris’ still bites hard. This cult classic from the Australian New Wave, filmed predominantly in Sofala, NSW, marked Weir’s leap from documentaries to international acclaim. 🎬🚗

The film’s quirky mix of horror, satire, and small-town intrigue premiered at the 1974 Cannes Film Festival, where it turned heads – and cars. To promote it, Weir transformed a second-hand Volkswagen into the iconic spiked buggy (seen in this clip) and had it cruise the Cannes Promenade, leaving a lasting impression.

Starring 70s favourites like Melissa Jaffer, Chris Haywood (in his film debut), and Bruce Spence, the film also features Weir’s longtime collaborators – from producers Jim and Hal McElroy to composer Bruce Smeaton.

This restored version evokes echoes of folk horror classics set in isolated communities such as ‘The Wicker Man’ and ‘Midsommar’, with Paris’s satirical take on ‘progress’ unfolding through macabre scenes like the Pioneers fancy dress ball.

👉 Stream the newly restored ‘The Cars That Ate Paris’ now on NFSA Player. Perfect for the holiday break: bit.ly/3P6WXVW

A young man with long curly hair blisses out to the musical vibe at the Nimbin Aquarius Festival in Australia, 1973. He is shirtless, except for a beaded armband on his upper left arm. His mouth is slightly open, eyes closed, as he stands with arms held high in the air in ecstasy. Photo credit: Peter Derrett

This week we also discussed our visit to the lovely FOMO theatre for a special event screening of "Emotion Is Dead", a tarantino-style crime film filled with emo/punk bangers.

We were also able to have a quick chat to Pete Williams about the movie which you can see here: youtu.be/Be1ABTcxL_M

I am currently watching Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga. I don't know why I am doing that, but here I am.

I don't get Mad Max at all. I love sci-fi and dystopian apocalyptic stories, but Mad Max has the narrative depth of a lukewarm puddle on the side of an interstate on a hot day after light overnight rains. It has nothing to say, no connective tissue to anything other than white colonial Australian machismo's absolute nadir. The nadir that continues to kill women and minorities at alarming rates.

Is that it? Are there aforementioned huwites out their giggling knowingly at "Scrotus" and "Rectus"? Is this fan service? Why are all the characters brain damaged? Is this a comment about the effects of fossil fuel pollution? Why are all the children deformed? Is it just about the body horror and pain and torture of women and children? Why even is that?

I'm eager to listen to anyone who has theories about any or all of this franchise' themes and meanings. I am willing to accept if I'm wrong or missed something.
