Lieblingsfoto.
🟤 It's art... and a favorite photo.

Photography and Art. An old color film shot of a man riding his bicycle into a canal (waterway) in Amsterdam. The photo shows the man (artist Bas Jan Ader) in blue jeans and shirt riding at speed on a bicycle sideways into the water. The front wheel is already floating in the air above the water. In the background you can see a typical stone bridge.
Info: The photo belongs to a 16mm film (Duration: 19") from 1970 and is emblematic of the life and work of Dutch-Californian conceptual artist Bas Jan Ader, who disappeared under mysterious circumstances in 1975.
While simultaneously critiquing and pushing forward the very idea of intellectual performance, he created a number of black and white films and photographs, recording his own aimless and, usually, absurd actions.
In 1975, the artist attempted an artistically motivated, performative Atlantic crossing in a very small sailboat. About 10 months after his departure, the empty boat was driven off the coast of Ireland. Jan Bas Ader's body was never found.
