#Beholding

2025-04-08

I got this zine because @futurebird talked about it, and it's wonderful. It's a double zine: the main text on one side, and quotes and more information on the other. I was reading out the quote about paying attention and got all choked up with emotion.

There's also this beautiful quote:

"the world is full of persons
only some of them human
and life is always lived in
relationship with others"
--Graham Harvey, Animism: Respecting the Living World.

#Beholding #Noticing #SmallThings #Insects

Cover of the zine "Meditation with Insects: An Art of Noticing, on the envelope it came in, from Unfolding Connections. The envelope is brown paper and there's an image of a small bug by the sender address, and a bird on a branch (partially covered by the zine) below the recipient address. An inner spread of the zine, featuring an ant on the left and a moth on the right.

The text says, "This book is for the moment when someone lands on you or crawls on your leg. This moment is an opportunity to build a deep relationship."A sample of the text from the other, inner side of the zine:

"Individuals of all species know what is going on in the world. They know because they are alive and conscious, capable of knowing, and because they have learned to understand. They know because they pay attention"
--Deborah Bird Rose, Dingo Makes Us Human: Life and Land in an Australian Aboriginal Culture.
