Es ging den Eiervorräten und dem Schweineschmalz an den Kragen, mit #Crepes oder #Beignets (Fettgebackenes), je nach Region.
Wenn ich in der #MaisonRurale erzähle, wie die Leute die bösen Wintergeister vertrieben und die lange haltbar gemachten Eier nutzten, habe ich ab und zu noch Besucher*innen, die

Keller im Bauernhofmuseum. Ein Regal mit eingemachtem Gemüse und Obst vor einer Wand aus groben Steinen. Davor Steinguttöpfe, grau oder dunkelbraun, in denen Milchvergorenes wie Sauerkraut und Rüben gelagert wurde. In kleineren bewahrte man Eier auf, entweder in Asche versenkt (ca. einen Monat haltbar) oder in Wasserglas getaucht. Diese Alkalisilicatlösung wird gallertartig und verschließt die Poren der Eierschalen gegen Wasser, Luft u. Mikroorganismen. Die Eier sind Monate haltbar.

Typischer Eierhalter im Bauernhofmuseum: Drei hölzerne Regalbrettchen mit kreisrunden Ausstanzungen in einem senkrecht aufgehängten Kistchen, geschützt durch ein Lattentürchen. So lagerte man Eier für den schnellen Verbrauch im Keller oder einem ungeheizten Raum.

2 flache kupferne Wärmflaschen, die in ihrer Krümmung perfekt für die Biegung des Bauchs passen. Auf dem Land meist die Erstversorgung bei "Büchweh", aber auch bei Rückenschmerzen. Ärzte gab es lange Zeit nicht überall, nur durchfahrende Heiler*innen und fahrende Doktoren. Die Menschen hatten darum ein Arsenal an Hausmedizin von Pflanzenschnäpsen über Schröpfköpfe - und auch schon mal magischen Zauber wie geweihte Gipsmadonnen, die man in den Tee schabte.

Fluffy homemade beignets: proof yeast in warm water, rise 1 hour, fry at 375°F for 90 seconds, and dust with powdered sugar. Mardi Gras at home! 🎭✨

We started off the morning at #CafeDuMonde enjoying the famous #beignets and #chikorycoffee Highly recommend getting here around 7 am as the line quickly grew out of control and people waited long periods of time. The prices are great for beignets and coffee au lait and great music from local musicians.
