Local #BenchArt
#GenevieveTowsley (1907-1995) was a local journalist, author, and historian. She frequently wrote articles featuring local immigrant families, and her stories resulted in a nearby pool becoming racially integrated. Her work to save a historic building founded the #NapervilleHeritageSociety.

Her bench is very inviting. Pedestrians often stop to rest or take a selfie with Genevieve. She sits outside of a #BarnesAndNoble bookstore, at the corner of Washington St and Chicago Ave in #Naperville #Illinois.

Genevieve's #sculpture has been here many years, but Naperville is known for its wide variety of #SidewalkSculpture displays, which are changed out frequently. The artist is Pamela Carpenter of nearby Glen Ellyn, Illinois.

In Naperville, Illinois, USA:
Statue/sculpture of an older lady seated on a bench, with a space for people to sit next to her. She is holding a pad of paper, with a pen poised over the paper as if writing. Her face is looking slightly up (seemingly at someone walking past or standing near), and she is smiling warmly.

Behind the lady statue is a storefront window for a Barnes & Noble bookstore. (The bookstore is moving to another nearby town in a few weeks. I don't know what will be replacing it.)

The artist is Pamela Carpenter of Glen Ellyn, Illinois.Image of a black plaque with gold letters, on a red brick wall. The plaque reads:

Genevieve Towsley
1907-1995
Naperville journalist, author, and historian

Come sit with Genevieve if you may
She'll lend her ear to what you say

She "pounded the pavement" and upon her search
This journalist wrote of community, county, and church

Her stories meandered through our everyday life
Writing of our neighbors' joys and strife

Like the fruited vine upon arbor sound
Her columns became our history in written bound

Come sit with Genevieve if you may
She's a 20th century icon in every way.

Pamela S. Carpenter, Post and Sculptor
