A massive, somewhat weathered concrete statue head, amidst bare branches in springtime, under blue sky. Ground is full of dead leaves, with some debris lying about.

For #fossilfriday I present a statue of Lupe the Colombian Mammoth. 13,000 years ago she died along the banks of the Guadalupe River. Today her bones are housed in San Jose's Children Discovery Museum, with the statue looking through the window like a ghost.

At least this one is eager to visit the Reclining Buddha and get the monks blessing.

The entrance stairs to one of the most sacred places on Cambodia’s sacred mountain is often filled with people entering and leaving.

In ancient Khmer, the mountains were named after Indra, the king of gods in the Hinduist realm of Kambuja, or Khmer Angkor Empire as we call it today.

The Kulen Mountains is the mythic origin of the Khmer and Angkor Imperial culture and visiting and view all the sights take several days, or several visits.

But the visits are worth it.

Photo shows old wide stone stairs up to a gate with statues from Hindu and Buddhist religion. The stairs are lightly crowded with people walking up and down, and some selling small items from small pop-up stores. In the centre, a young local boy is running up the stairs with several steps at the time. Two Garuda-guardian status keeps a Naga-snake statue each in front of the elaborate gates. It is a slightly overcast day, but the contrast between the stone stairs and statues, and the deep green of the surrounding forest.
