Firefighters make progress on 3 fires in the Tanana Zone
BY BLM ALASKA FIRE SERVICE on JUNE 23, 2025
Firefighters assigned to the Lush Fire (#199)
continue working to protect structures and allotments on the north side of the Yukon River across from the community of Rampart, as the weather shifts to a cooler, wetter trend over the next few days.
Smokejumpers, the BLM Midnight Sun Hotshots, North Star Fire Crew, SES Fire K-River Crew #1, and Mooseheart Crew are clearing defensible space around Alaska Native allotments, structures, and a cultural camp in the area. They have installed hoses, sprinklers and pumps around structures as well.
Elsewhere in the Tanana Zone, six smokejumpers responded to a new start Sunday about 15 miles southeast of Tanana. The Shortcut Fire (#322) is burning south of Long Lake near Hay Slough. Firefighters are cutting firebreaks around an Alaska Native allotment in the area for point protection. The weather forecast calls for an 80% chance of wetting rains in the area today.
Five smokejumpers are finishing their work on the Bootlegger Fire (#236), which is on the north side of the Yukon River east of Ruby. The fire is still about 3 acres. Firefighters are identifying any remaining hotspots around the fire’s edge today and putting them out.
