A stroll through Inverleith Park and the Botanics.

I love the line of trees in Inverleith Park, and they made me seek out a similar but different prospect in the Botanics. Lots of crocuses and daffodils too, though I didn't notice and forgot to look for the famous snowdrops!

I think it was my first visit to the Botanics since Storm Eowyn. There are still many trees down. It's a bit like seeing injured friends.

A colour photograph of a line of trees (poplars, I believe) in the Botanics (Royal Botanic Gardens) in Edinburgh, taken from the entrance to Inverleith House.

Taken facing north, a line of eight bare trees fills most of the picture. In the foreground is a round pond with a metal statue in its centre. The line is surrounded by a broad pathway.

Beyond the line of trees are bushes and other trees.

Above them is a clear blue skyA colour photograph taken in Inverleith Park in Edinburgh. In the foreground is a large area of grass, on which a couple of people are walking in the distance.

Post the grass is a line of of fifteen tall trees, part of a long avenue through the park. The bare trees are silhouetted against the sky.

In the distance, hard to make out in the fight haze is the skyline of Edinburgh.A colour photograph taken in the Botanics (Royal Botanic Gardens) in Edinburgh. It shows a hillside, at the top of which and to the left of the picture is Inverleith House, a Georgian building.

In front of that are four trees and in front of them a grassy slope, in which a very many white and purple crocuses and yellow daffodils are flowering.

British geneticist and plant anatomist Edith Rebecca Saunders was born in 1865.

She is best as known as the "Mother of British Plant Genetics": she played an active role in the re-discovery of Mendel's laws of heredity, the understanding of trait inheritance in plants. She also developed extensive work on flower anatomy, particularly focusing on the gynoecia, the female reproductive organs of flowers.

Banner across the top of the page indicates “Photographs by Nicoll, Wayland, Swaine, Palmer Clark and Foscall” with no other identifying data.

In the photograph, Saunders is likely portrayed in formal attire typical of the era, wearing a high-collared blouse or a modest dress, reflecting her professional and serious demeanor. Her hair is styled neatly, likely in a traditional fashion, with minimal ornamentation, which was common for women in academia at the time. She would be seated or standing with an air of confidence and intellectual poise, fitting for someone of her stature in the scientific community.

The photograph, as indicated by the banner, is one of a series produced by reputable photographers of the period such as Nicoll, Wayland, Swaine, Palmer Clark, and Foscall. The style of photography is likely formal, with a simple background that ensures the focus is on Saunders herself.

What is Botanical Illustration? Learn About the History of This Scientific Art Form.

Prior to the invention of photography, botanical illustration was the only way of visually recording the world’s many species of plant life. Today, science books are full of highly detailed photographs—typically taken with a macro lens or even a microscope—allowing us to discover the fascinating forms of flora and fauna.

Three of my T-shirts from herbologist.uk.
I love them. I used to follow the designer on the bird site in the old days, and it occurred to me that some other #bloomscrolling peeps might appreciate them too.

3 T-shirts. The left petrol blue shirt says "Without trees we are nothing" below 3 silver falling leaves. The middle navy shirt shows a variety of herbs in outline, insects and a teapot, illustrating the benefits of the plants. The pale green shirt on the right also has a variety of wild flowers in outline with a thistle-like flower in the centre.

I wonder... if you were to paint a plant, what would you find most appealing?
Because today I'm very fascinated with Venus Flytraps. The shapes, the colors, the teeths...

Photo prise au jardin des branches d'un petit Sorbus wardii. On voit ses feuilles duveteuses presque blanches et des fleurs encore fermées. La lumière de la fin d'après-midi est un peu dorée.
