The #FirstNations people of #BritishColumbia suffered a horrific #smallpox epidemic beginning in 1862 on #ThisDayInHistory when the 1851-built US #PaddleSteamer #BrotherJonathan arrived in Victoria from San Francisco. An estimated 2/3 of the Indigenous population was wiped out.
