[Ask the Tax Whiz] Things to know about your upgraded tax-free employee benefits

fed.brid.gy/r/https://www.rapp

The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) has increased the tax-exempt ceilings for several de minimis benefits granted to employees, following the issuance of Revenue Regulations (RR) No. 29-2025.

The move updates long-standing limits that many employers and employees say no longer reflect today’s cost of living, and gives companies more flexibility in structuring compensation packages without additional tax exposure.

What are de minimis benefits?

De minimis benefits are small, non-cash or cash allowances given to employees that are exempt from income tax and withholding tax, as long as they stay within the ceilings set by the BIR.

These benefits are meant to provide practical, everyday support — such as food subsidies, medical assistance, or clothing allowances — while keeping compensation arrangements tax-efficient for both employers and workers.

What does RR No. 29-2025 change?

RR No. 29-2025 revises and increases the allowable limits for several de minimis benefits, acknowledging rising prices and higher living costs.

Under the new regulation, employers can now grant higher amounts tax-free, giving workers greater real take-home value while allowing companies to remain compliant with tax rules.

[Vantage Point] Why Jollibee should stop thinking like a restaurant and start thinking like McDonald’s

fed.brid.gy/r/https://www.rapp

Jollibee’s International operations now deliver real growth and profits, with double-digit same-store sales across major regions and roughly 40% of EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization) coming from overseas, underscoring that the company is no longer dependent on Philippine consumption alone. Despite this momentum, Jollibee is still financed like a restaurant operator — lease-heavy, capital-intensive, and exposed to operating volatility — placing a ceiling on valuation.

The planned spin-off and potential listing of its international business on a United States (US) securities exchange by 2027 highlights the opportunity ahead: if Jollibee shifts decisively toward a McDonald’s-style, asset-light, franchise-led model that prioritizes cash flow over store count, it could unlock a far higher valuation. Emotion built the brand; discipline will determine whether it becomes truly global in value, not just in presence.

It did not begin as a corporate strategy. There were no spreadsheets, no investor decks, no valuation models forecasting global dominance. Jollibee Foods Corporation began as a small, almost sentimental experiment in Manila — warm, familiar, and unmistakably Filipino. Its earliest customers were not looking for efficiency or scale. They came for com

#quản_trị_doanh_nghiệp #tối_ưu_quy_trình #BusinessManagement #ProcessOptimization

[Good Business] Lessons from Asia 21, Palawan, and the future of business leadership

fed.brid.gy/r/https://www.rapp

When was the last time you entered a room and felt the weight of responsibility and possibility at the same time?

As an Asia 21 fellow this year, I asked myself this as I walked into the Asia 21 Next Generation Fellows Summit this December 5 to 7 held in Manila, my first gathering as part of the 2025 cohort. I had imagined the moment for years. Back in college, I remember reading about Asia 21 Fellows who were shaping policy, building communities, and challenging systems. I followed their stories like a student studying constellations that are visible, distant, but guiding. And suddenly, there I was, no longer just looking up at the stars but meeting them, learning with them, and realizing I now shared the responsibility to shine.

The summit, organized by Asia Society Philippines and led by Natalie Ching Jorge, Doris Magsaysay Ho, and Fernando Zobel De Ayala, was a powerful reminder that leadership isn’t a title, it’s a lifelong practice of courage, humility, and service. Standing beside co-fellows I had only ever read about (including my 2025 co-fellow Filipino classmate Kenneth Abante), I felt the quiet thrill of belonging to a circle of people who still believe that change is possible, that institutions can evolve, and that communities deserve leaders who li
