#CaptainJanewayStatue

I had to go to Bloomington for work, today, coincidentally. So, of course, I couldn't pass up the opportunity to take a selfie with my girl!

My Book of Faces reminded me that, a year ago, the Janeway Collective did a Thing!

(We'd unveiled the #CaptainJanewayStatue in October of 2020, but for obvious reasons, Kate Mulgrew couldn't make it in person. Last year, we were finally able to arrange that visit for her!)

I have no idea what we're giggling about in this photo, but the day was full of joy and excitement, so it could have been anything...

Two women stand on either side of a bronze bust of Captain Janeway of Star Trek Voyager (a woman with chin-length hair, wearing a Starfleet uniform consisting of a two-toned jacket over a turtleneck with rank pips on the collar, in the character's favorite pose of arms crossed across her chest) that sits atop a swooping limestone pedestal. The laser-engraved black metal sign on the front says
FUTURE BIRTHPLACE OF
CAPTAIN
KATHRYN
JANEWAY
BLOOMINGTON, INDIANA
EARTH
MAY 20, 2336

On the left stands Kate Mulgrew - a white woman with slightly-past-shoulder-length grey and silver hair, wearing a grey V-neck knit shirt, black pants, and black shoes. On the right is OP, here, wearing a dark blue short sleeved shirt that says RITOS in white letters, black sun sleeves, grey gloves, a wide-brimmed hat tied on with a gauzy purple scarf (with sunglasses on top) and a black and red fabric mask (made to resemble a Starfleet uniform in color) over a white N-95.

They are looking at one another from across the statue and grinning/giggling about something.

Behind them, sun dapples through autumn-colored trees ranging from green to red. There are a few people in the background.

#ThrowbackThursday to several weeks ago, when the #JanewayCollective hosted a little shindig with Kate Mulgrew at the #CaptainJanewayStatue.

It was so wonderful to see her experience it in person, and it was even MORE wonderful to see all of the fans who came in from all over the country (and virtually from all over the world)!

On a sunny autumn day, wwo women flank a bronze bust of Captain Janeway (of Star Trek: Voyager), leaning with their wrists and hands on the limestone base, sharing a glance and laughing.

The woman on the left (Kate Mulgrew - who portrayed Captain Janeway on the show) has straight greyish blonde hair gathered loosely into two ponytails, a dark grey V-neck knit top, and black leggings. The woman on the right (yours truly) is shorter by several inches, and is covered nearly from head to toe (black slacks, dark navy blue tshirt with RITOS in white letters, black sun sleeves, grey gloves, a purple scarf tied over a wide-brimmed hat, and a black and red cloth facemask over an N95), with only her eyes visible.

The statue consists of a limestone base which, if viewed from above, is in the shape of the delta shield (a chevron-shaped logo). It swoops in a gentle curve upright, and the bronze bust of Captain Janeway sits atop it. There are different tones to the patina, so that parts of the statue (such as her badge) are shinier. On the front of the plinth of the base is a black metal sign with words laser etched:
